Is fair all faction members pay for the acts of a few?
Yesterday, some (or all, I do not know) members of my faction were imprisoned for violating rules. However, I believe that not all violated the rules. This is really fair?
There's a saying that one bad apple spoils the bunch. If you have several less-than-stellar players who go about fouling up the name of your organization, then it does tend to cast a shadow on the whole group.
Another group, an official faction, decided to oust several members who were deemed detrimental to the overall faction roleplay. There are several factions that, if a member screws up, get the taste smacked out of their mouths.
You see on the sanctions threads all the time (or you will, welcome to the forums finally) of people that are in official factions being "dealt with" by said factions even if the character sanctioned isn't the one in that faction. The PLAYER behind that character is part of that faction, and as a group, they do not want to see their name tarnished, even if just a potential threat, in the least.
So yes. It is fair. It also puts the onus on you, as part of that faction, and the other faction members, to straighten out the bad apples in your faction, and if not, kick them out.
I'll be a bit of a black sheep here and suggest it isn't fair, just to be completely objective.
In a group as small as these guys are (if it's the same group I'm thinking of), it would be easy enough to sanction the offending members as opposed to the entire group.
Speaking as one of the Guildmasters of the BHG| (and not an admin) I can state unequivocally that the actions of the members reflect upon the faction as a whole. If there were a group of BHG| members that violated the same server rules as happened by the members of your faction, I would fully expect the administrators of the server to deal with the BHG| in a similar fashion until the situation was resolved.
It should be noted that as an unofficial faction, your group has fewer responsibilites (and rights) than an official faction has, but that you are still required to follow server rules. And also, of course, this is certainly not the first time that an entire faction has been jailed for the actions of some of it's members. I will note that the most recent faction that had this happen to them HAS improved their server roleplay and gameplay considerably, and are now welcome members of the community.
