ive been playing this server for over 2 years now, and not had any problems. I have been playing fine for the last 2 months, but then 2 days ago, i booted up my pc, ran fl, everything was normal, i then took a break and quit the game. I came back later only to find that the game seemed to be playing up somehow.
Basically when i boot up my computer i can connect to the server fine the first time, but every time after that it fails to connect, i get: "the requested operation is taking longer than usual" and then after waiting i just get the "server has gone offline" (you know the drill) and then if i click "OK" the game freezes and i have to CTRL, ALT and DEL to get it to close.
This is weird, and annoying because it was working perfectly fine 2 days ago, connection is tottally fine on other games, and to show the freezing isnt linked to my PC being able to run it here are my specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium x32bit (All the FL related programs are being run in admin mode)
2Gig of ram
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.8ghz = (3.6Ghz)
XFX Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 256mb DDr3
Arctic 500W PSU
I have tried a clean re-install, but to no avail.
If anyone can help then please do!
[color=#FF0000]For anyone else that has this problem, i have fixed mine. If you're running vista, right click your freelancer icon, select properties, click the compatibility tab and change the compatibility mode to Windows 98 / Windows ME. Before i changed this, (mine was set to Windows XP (Service Pack 2)) then hit apply, then OK. Run freelancer and you should have no problems. :D
i wouldnt think that the freeze would be anything to do with a lack of memory? since i can run mass effect, gears of war and battlefield 2142 all maxed out.
And my version of windows is limited to only be able to use 2gb of ram anyway.
If i boot up my PC
I then run Freelancer where i can correctly connect to the disco server and play. But then i close the game, lets say to take a break.
I then come back and once again run freelancer again, but this time i cannot connect to any server and it just freezes.
(so it is as if the game is not closing properly after it has finished running the first time)
