First off, please don't take any of this is a nasty dig or anything, i am meerly making a couple of surgestions.
Currently we have a loose-loose situation, if the player count is max'd out, we lag everywhere becuase the current connection can't handle the playercount.. and if the player count is too low, you still lag because of the NPC's..
Well, we all know that all is being done that can be done to make Lag less of a problem, Prehaps we can re-gain the 80-100 players we have lost to other servers once the server is seated in it's new home.
Well, we have the imminant server-move and upgrades, that is brilliant, but if we all think back, when the server was located on a stable connection before, we still had intermitant lag problems.
The more you modify a game and try and spread it to many peer's at once, the more lag will occour, that's understandable and fair enough.
However, we can make steps to make lag less of a problem.
Something as simple as Removing all NPC's that simply arent needed? i mean all bar mission and Guard system NPC's..
Not only will this reduce lag, but it will stop the constant issue of Bot farming..
Also, this is a RP server.... Right ?
How is somone ment to RP -[ mainly involves typing] if you are being shot at continusly by needless NPC's.. i mean, sure if we were playing on a PVP server, Fair enough.. but i don't see why we have them otherwise.
The next idea i am not fully in favor for, but i can see how it can help.. maybe Reducing the player count by a bit ? Not by much.. but still.. we have lost a fair number of people to other servers recantly and we might not even need said player slots.
i ask that my thoughts here are seriously thought about, and please feel free to correct me if i am wrong in syaying NPC's cause lag.
There was a post not long ago about removing NPC's
It needs to be changed in the mod. So lets see what the devs do in 4.86. Until then we sit and wait and enjoy the nice 'yellow & red' lightning from the ion storms.
And lowering player limit would be the last resort. Let's wait for the maintenance and see if the ion storms can be drawn away.
' Wrote:i thought the current lags are caused by ddos attempts...
could be wrong though
Some lag spike might be.
But their was something wrong with a 'cable' after a attack. I think they are currently on a low performance 'cable'. The new parts will arrive in a while as I have seen from a topic.
chenzo, maybe check that fancy "server status" thread once in a while?
and maybe be on forums and ATLEAST CHECK whats up with the server. If you did, you'd know that were on a temporary connection and that we, sometime within the next week or two, will get back on the old fiber connection.
all of you, stop whining. Even with lags, we can roleplay.
