Hello guys! This is a very noobish question, but what is the main difference of light and heavy fighters? when each one is more appropriated? by the logic a heavy fighter would always be better than a light fighter of the same lvl, but it doesn't seem true?
Could someone please help a still freelancer nb?:P
A light fighter is more maneuverable, and with a decent pilot it should run rings around any heavier fighter.
They aren't terribly versatile though, only being any use against other fighters and bombers, although the QCP has Hussars on Cruise Disruption duty to back up Inferno-armed Templars.

Thanks in advance!:)
Well ofcourse you can maneuver better in a LF. If your crafty you can stay directly behind a HF most of time. LF are usually harder to hit too. I tend to view the LF as an interceptor craft as it is only effective against other fighters and especially bombers. Can't really do a whole lot of damage to a cap ship, methinks.
Yeah, they only cruise disrupt a cappy. I guess they can Nuke Mine too, but they'd be acting as support and interference.
Word for the wise... Light Fighters are *hard* to fly. They are very unforgiving of even the slightest mistakes. However, even the best Raven's Talon pilot won't be able to beat you.

Bad idea. The Crow is a well balanced HF and has a forward firing turret making it have almost the firepower of a VHF. It is damned agile too.
I love light fighters, but as has been mentioned, they're pretty useless vs. a transport or capship. They also can't do a whole lot when outnumbered by heavier fighters, since a lot of effort has to be put into dodging. But one vs. one, or in a large dogfight where all the enemies aren't ganging up on just one person, they own. I will warn you, it takes time for a LF to wear down a VHF.
I've wondered about HFs too. Pretty much everyone flies VHFs, with a few rare LFs (quite rare these days, what with all the capships around). HFs I hardly ever see.
light fighter < heavy fighter ( great agility, little firepower)
heavy fighter < very heavy fighter ( average agility, average firepower )
very heavy fighter < light fighter ( little agility, great firepower )
however, the disc mod adds a greater variety of fighters, so its not allways easy to make up a difference. some light fighters having more firepower than even very heavy ones. some heavy fighters steering with more agility than some light fighters. i don t think the category "light, heavy, very heavy" really works anymore for a mod that added so many ships. most ships are just unique, bringing their very own statistics that must not necessarily apply to the original ship class. ( especially the nomad light fighter that moves faster than a VHF fighter while allowing to mount 3 lvl10 guns aswell as a lvl10 shield, i think)
as mentioned before, its hard to wear down a VHFs shields/armor though, with shields being up to 14k on a VHF and up to 14.5k armor, you need a long time, even if you manage to stick on the enemies back all the time. shield regeneration kills the LFs efficiency, too.
roleplaywise, i d add light fighters to very heavy fighters as escorts, and heavy fighters to bombers. why? i don t know - just a feeling that this is right =)
I don't think that lighter fighter can easily outmatch very heavy fighter. I've been piloting LF for some time, I don't think I am worst pilot here but I had problems with fighters of other classes. I didn't loose against them but neither I could win: it's a lack of firepower that makes light fighter unappealing in PvP. Pretty much the only choice around is to rip shields and try to hit enemy with Nova. Without it there is not much to do against heavier fighters - damage output is simply too low while the opponent can sweep away light fighter's shield in a single round if you weren't maneuvering and/or lucky enough. May be it's just a nomad light fighter, I don't know, but for what I've seen it's quite hard to control. Pretty much I'm limited to running away from multiple opponents or simply have hours long duels where nobody wins, making it less of a combat but an endurance test or more like a time test, given that not everyone can play for hours long.
I, personally, quite enjoy Light Fighters. Useful mostly against VHF's with the proper loadout, though combat against other LF's as well as Bombers is still very efficient. Flying it is a challenge and takes a lot of skill (Note: Suggest flying "lighter" heavy fighters using only class 8+9 weapons to learn. Eagle, for example).
