Well, how about devs make a missile that fires backward, not forward?
Saw it in an old dogfighting arcade game, thought it was really neat.
those pesky guys are called light fighters, and we have a hard enough time as it is trying to kill anything, so no... you have a mine dropper for a reason.
You make a genuine case, but the thing is, that's the only advantage light fighters have as of this moment. By adding rear firing missiles, one's practically taking light fighters out of the equation.
That is why such an idea would not work well here.
A missiles overall projectile speed is the missiles base speed + your ships speed. So any missiles you fire backwards are moving backwards at a rate of at least 200ms already.
Besides, flying in one direction shooting backwards is quite possibly the worst tactic ever. Makes you such an easy target. Makes me lulz whenever a Cruiser or Gunboat try it, they usually die pretty quickly unless it's a tridente or something. Those things are rediculously small for a heavy gunboat.
