I love this game and I love the Discovery mod. I really do. But I have yo-yo'ed in and out of the game over the past couple of years - and I hate the fact that that has happened.
I chose a new forum name for a fresh start but I don't mind telling you who I am - my previous forum name was Marlowe221. While trying to build back up from zero (/facepalm) I have been wondering where I should spend my time.
I have been a member of a few of the official factions:
- I have primarily been a junker, flying for the .:j:. for the longest time under a couple of different character names.
- I had a brief run in DSE), and [AFA].
- I gave IMG a shot too.
They are all great factions with great people behind them who work hard to make the server a fun place to be.
But it has been tough finding RP compelling enough for ME to keep my interest from periodically dieing off. I would really like to change that.
So I come to the community for some suggestions (I hope). I have a few factors in mind:
1. Immersive RP opportunities - quirky, weird, and unusual are ok!
2. Something on the unique side - cops vs. robbers doesn't really appeal to me.
3. I'm not great at PvP but I try hard and I am willing to be trained.
ZOI size does not matter to me. I can make indie/Zoner traders if I just want to wander or whatever.
Any suggestions for official factions I should apply to? Unofficial ones?
There are few factions that have what you want, I recommend having a good browse of the recruitment threads and reading some message dumps until you find something that makes you think "that's what I'm looking for". However if you're looking for a more specific answer containing shameless plugging I can think of one faction that would suit the requirements you posted pretty well actually. *Loken stares at his signature and smiles*

I would propose you the yet unofficial FBG faction.
1. Immersive RP opportunities? Check. We have every possibility in Sirius there can be. Plus we are said to control 75% of Gallias black market.
2. Unique? Well, the Brigands are kinda everything you can find on the unlawful side. Nothing much unique in there i'd say. Of course, every faction in itself is unique.
3. No worries. You'll be trained in Gallia very fast. And if only against NPC swarms....
In a brilliant tactical movement, i charged backwards.
Legion des Damnes, an (unofficial)Gallic Brigand faction
1. expanding into Sirius, making deals with the factions there. Then theres resisting the royalists, cos they're crazy. oh, and the comfort of a minefield keeping you safe from...well, whatever sirian things your afraid of. the nomads, for example. I aint ever seen one in Gallia.
2. the Legion are mostly ex-navy, betrayed or betrayers, depending on what you want to believe. you can RP one of the surviving Legionnaires from when they were navy, someone just joining the brigands, or a long time brigand wanting to join the gang.
3. We have a pvp whore or two who'd probably love to take you out for a spin, teach you the ropes. plus, with a bomber patrol every fifteen seconds, especially if your in a transport, you'll be flying great in no-time. And since theres always the option of running from the police/navy/sun-going-supernova, PvP isnt completely necessary. Heck, you could fly so badly you shoot your own guys for all i care, just as long as you do it with style
if you want something a tiny bit more unique than that, since its kinda close to cops and robbers, theres the LaBrise de Mer Union Corse family. They operate on both sides of the law, striking deals with anyone and everyone.
And you can have cops v. terrorists (maquis) or cops versus revolutionaries (Council/Republique de Gaule Libre). or cops v. Sirians, since the Royalists really dont like foreigners.
