I know that repair guns are out of the question due to the limitations of the Freelancer engine, but I was wondering why. Is this because the game simply chokes one anything in a weapon slot that doesn't function as a weapon, or due to it simply ignoring "negative" damage on projectiles?
If it's the latter, would it be possible to code in some kind of upgrade equipment that would fit into those slots instead?
The reason I ask, is because I was thinking about the mod at work, and had a couple ideas.
I know equipable power plants have been sugested and shot down before, due to the obvious potental for abuse/imbalancing of the game, but what about a sort of auxeraly generator that would fit into the cruise disruptor slot? There'd be two main "lines", one biased towards boosting regen rate, the other towards capacity.
The seond idea would be a line of shield boosters, similar to the previous idea, though it'd, obviously, boost shield function and would fit into the countermeasure slot. I'd really like to see this one, and I think this would be a lot easier than trippling the number of shield generators in the game.
I can go into more detail if any of this is actually possible, but I really don't want to type up my whole train of thought here only to find out it's impossible.
