Ive been runnin around sp, checking out the different VHF's, trying to find one I like. My question is, the Raven's Talon, I've been told, is one of, if not the, most agile vhf around. Perhaps i was told wrong. I flew it, and it IS agile as you wouldnt believe. That being said, I like the look and feel of the Virage better. I've noticed that it has more than 2k less armor, 15 less cargo space, and 9 less bats/bots. Does it make up for this with increased agility?
To try and figure this out, I pulled the extra stats for these two fighters with datastorm.(Relax thats all I've used it for.) I just dont know what to make of the stats. How do you determine agility from the mass, steering, angular, and rotation stats?
Capships seem to have higher stats all around, but they turn slow. So which stat, or relation between them, determines agility?
I can not tell you which one you choose... but i chose mine not on fighter stats but on feeling while fighting in it...how it moves, how it feels in comabat... placement of guns hardpoints and other little things...
Haha, ooooh, you make me laugh.:PRaven's Talon is NOT a very agile VHF. It's better than the Titan or Templar, sure, but not by much. In fact, it turns like a brick compared to most other VHFs...its only real advantages are a great powerplant and a very small profile.
Virage is a good VHF...but it all depends on your RP. What affiliation and ID are you going to use?
Freelancer ID, Im somewhere between GMG and Zoner tag, havent really decided yet. I like to have a go anywhere character to start with. Get used to the mod and the environment and all that. I picked up the virage before waiting for a reply. It was too damn sexy, I couldnt not.
agility is the most important stat for me when it comes to choosing a fighter. - but not agility as a raw number, but - yes, the feeling about it. for example the eagle series. - they "appear" to be rather agile, but the way they turn does not suit me.
they roll first and turn later - so they turn with some delay. personally, i like it more when the fighter directly responds - like the BHG fighters. those are slower to turn in general but have a quicker response.
so personally, i manage to dodge better in a hammerhead than in a griffin LF.
then its about the hitbox, too - or what appears to be the hitbox. for example - the virage offers a low profile from the front - but a rather big one from above. (when it turns) - while the BHG fighters are big from the sides.
only then comes the raw stats like armor or so. virage for example has similar stats like the blood dragon. (little less armor)- but its seriously bigger and less able to turn. (cause its a VHF instead of a HF)
after all, the most important reason to decide on a fighter is its look ( and of course the faction you roleplay ) - so personally, i would never fly a borderworld fighter, cause i dislike their look.
lastly - there may aswell be camera points of view be considered. the turanic LF sticks extremely close to the players point of view - obscuring most of the screen while the much bigger eagle appears much smaller there. ( that is if you play in chase 3rd person view instead of cockpit )
and if you re "metagaming" you can also consider to avoid vanilla ships, cause they are affected by blast damage and loss of limbs .. unlike custom designs.
I agree with Cheshire the Hammerhead is a good ship or the Manta, but the only down side it rolls a bit. It has a great turning point and has a good payload. You tend not to lose your hardware aswell, but as the other post have said its all down to your char'.
Viper mk II - for the good, Valkyrie hitbox, perfectly average armor, speed and weapon stats. And what's most surprising - it didn't get as many flames as the MK I did a while ago
Eagle comes second. I like its weapons placement, but its vulnerability to explosives is really pissin' me off
Raven's claw - yes, i know, ugly, flat, unFL and not too fast. But it's flat, hard to hit and has 2 extra lv 9 guns.
Problem with Claw is.. It doesn't have the energy for 2 extra guns.
So, the best thing to do with it is to either have dual missiles, or 4 shield busters+4 hull busters grouped.
Second one works really well.
But, i hate the looks of that ship. Really really hate it.
Best VHF out there is, believe it or not, a HF. Blood Dragon HF.
It's actually half HF half VHF, it has the best of both.
Speed and size of a HF, powerplant and guns of VHF. Even armor.
My personal favorite is, ofc, Viper mk1:yes:
I just love the look of that ship:)

well, the blood dragon is not a HF ( i know its labled as one - but its not ) - it has more bats, more bots, more hull, more energy, more agility than the VHF hammerhead. ( heavy fighters rather have like 3000-8000 armor [ baracuda - kushan HF ] )
so when the primary stat about a ships class is its hullstrength, - the blood dragon with its - i think 9200 or so is simply a VHF that is very small and agile. ( 9200 is more than quite some VHF ( hammerhead, virage, kushan etc )
but yes - the blood dragon is an awesome fighter - if you were a blood dragon, you should fly that one. if you are not, you must not fly it. not even as a freelancer or a mercenary, cause hte BDs don t even give it to their closest allies.
