We need a serious base guide. The last few guides are instructions on how to use commands... not how to build a base. I want to build a base but based on the past couple posts here I am scared I'd waste my money and time. I want to know what I need to set up a base, keep it safe from attack, let my friends dock at it (some who aren't in a faction yet) and then get it operating all nice so I can have it be a point of operations for me and my friends.
All of what you just asked for is explained in both Friday's version and my version of a Player Base Guide. All of it.
I will admit the Getting Started or Quick Start sections need some love, but you can easily build your own base using either of the guides in this thread. I'll quote Zahas as his comment sums up what is missing from those sections.
Quote:Best thing to do it's to fill a 5k with 200 spacecrew, 400 food/water/oxygen and rest of it basic alloy, get your 5k-er where you want to place the base F1 there log on your heavy lifter , place the base , dock, acces docking points to your 5ker log on your 5ker dock sell and have alot luck building the shield generator fast
Both Friday and myself made these guides in our free time and to help others. If you don't like them, you're free to make your own. You'll have to excuse my tone as I rather dislike when I do something to help someone and they don't take the help, but rather complain about a lack of help.
I would just like to point out there is not a 1-2-3 to setting up a base. Both yours and Friday's guide simply explain what it takes to build things -- not what they explicitly do or how they function. The guide is not in-depth. It is a very mechanical guide. That's not wrong per se, but it doesn't help me know what I need to do to keep a base safe.
Things like ideal build, what things do for me and how fast they build would be a good start.
So for example, let's say I am about to plop down a base. I know I need to get that construction guy into position then I type the command to drop the base. How much cargo does the base now have for me to stuff it with things? I get my base shield up and running then I start building cargo units? How many can I build? What is the purpose of each module? I don't understand what a Docking Factory is. What do those do? etc.

There is no ideal build or ideal place- you could have ore storage base lvl 1 with shield and 3 stroage depots for example, or you can have lvl 4 base with all tech factories build in- it is up to user to decide what he needs- here is explained good enough what you need- the rest is up to you- you can use tools as well to check with what kind of res you would supply base in order not to die or what you want to build in order to position it near to vital sell points.

Factory Modules build 'Exotic' Equipment that you cannot buy anywhere else ingame. A Docking Factory makes Docking Modules that allow the person who has it mounted to have real people dock in the ship as if it were a base. However the ingame functionality of these pieces of equipment are still in beta-phase.
Fridays guide is a perfect guide for building bases and I learnt from this guide alone!!!
Its pretty self-expanatory really, you dont understand coz you have not done enough research or because you need s dummies guide on How to'.
If its the latter then youll need to wait til after the final mod is released

How do storage depots work? Can I store things in them like I can store things in a ship? How can I get my friends to dock at a station who are not in an official faction? What happens to the exotic items that I build at a station, do they appear in my ship or in storage (and if in storage how do I access them?) How do I have my station offer to sell equipment like nanobots, shield batteries and armor upgrades? What do I need to do to get my base to sell weapons? How can I make a base look a certain way, or am I stuck with the default "player base" look?
I'm not bashing anyone's guide. I'm just saying there are questions that are unanswered.

Rude. I am asking questions because I genuinely don't know. I've never had a base! How am I supposed to know!? These bases require a large financial investment -- AND THEY CAN BE BLOWN AWAY. It's only fair that I know exactly what I'm getting into before I decide to commit.

Just gonna say your posts here have been anything but helpful. I read the guide. All I know is that it says what I can build and has a couple examples of what I should build. But it never actually explains what a lot of things do. It says I should build a core upgrade module. That looks expensive! It doesn't even tell me what it does! Why do I need it?
You need to take a step back and unlearn everything you know before you caps-lock police others. People like me who read a guide and have questions afterwards (and read the base FAQ posted in the same forum) sometimes still have questions. A lot of stuff here may be taken for granted because you guys have been playing this game for seven years. I've been playing for seven days. I think asking a few questions here and there as to what some things with seemingly implied function do.
Geckon, how do I access the cargo/storage? Is there a special hangar for it and it opens up like the commodity list? Can I just throw anything into it and then open it up like an inventory list?
