So I had that idea this morning when playing on the "almost empty" server.

I'd love to have an ingame friends list, to see who of my mates are currnelty online and with what character.

It would go like that:

First step: You need an owner name, which will later appear on your friends lists.
(In my case I'd go with "Narcotic".)

Step two: Set an owner for each of your characters.
(You'll need to have the character logged to set an owner. Set a owner for those chars, which shall appear on your friends lists.)

Code:
/set owner [name] [password]

You'll give the password to your friend, whom you allow to add you on their list. (Movechar and renameme will delete the password.)

Step three: Adding friends to your list.

Code:
/add friend [name] [password]

It adds the friend to your list. Remember, that only people you gave that password will be able to add you.
It shall prevent, that strangers have you on their list. (Especially Bounty Hunters who collect bounties on your char/s.)

Step four: Show your friendslist.

Code:
/friends list

Also: /fl
And it'll show you that (if the player is currently online):

1. [name] [shipname/charactername] [location/system]
e.g:
Quote:1. Narcotic LR-Serious.Pacifist California
2. Cody W.F.Cody-Equipment-Shop New York
3. Rubber Duck BAF|MN-Rubber_Duck Leeds
4. Fidelius [RM]Fw.Gabriel.Engel New Berlin
5. Satan [RHA]Hans.Gukel Omicron Gamma
6. Pig_Pen SW)The.Steelmill Magellan
7. Raoie IC|Regina New York

(Those are just examples, I randomly named some who came into my mind. If you want to have them removed, tell me.)

If the player is offline, it'll just show the name.
And only the characters, for which you set an owner, will be visible to your friends.

Step five: Other commands:

Code:
/remove friend

Removes a friend from your list.

Code:
/mail [number] [text]

It sends a mail or PM to a friend, assigned to that number.

Code:
/fm [text]

It sends a message to all of your online friends. (Also /friends message)

Code:
/move up [name]
/move down [name]

Changes the order in the list.

Code:
/remove owner [name] [password]

It resets the password from the character you're logged.
People who already have you in their list, won't see that specific character anymore on their lists now.

I might have forgotten some important commands, but I guess that it was all.

So what do yout think?

Questions?
Suggestions?
Opinions?
Criticism?

/Edit: Should have put it into Discovery Mod General Discussion. But too late now.

well.... this might work. this can be pretty good feature to be added. but this will ruin all conspiracy and will make some more work for poor Devs. Idea is good but I doubt it will be brought to life.
also: why dont you simply remember your friend character names? or you have too many? or too bad memory?

OORP and stupid tool. And you have skype for it.
Much better would be to be able to drop ID based msgs and set ID based waypoints- and restrict it to the official factions only.
I would be more happy for suggestions that improve RP- not to the useless Oorp ones.

That would also require a lot more effort to achieve.

If you don't like the oorp commands, perhaps we should remove /ping?
/stuck?
/help?

While we're at it we'll remove all preset messages, ignore functions and givecash - after all you can just trade money, right?

Narcotic's idea is solid, and while I can't imagine Cannon would use his time building it, someone else with FLHook knowledge certainly could. I wouldn't say it would be an overly difficult plugin to build, either.

Good story bro- you have no idea what are you talking about- yes I would be happy not to have stuck and ping really- if the server provides not stucking ships and all users have flawless internet connection, the help stuff is listed already in wiki/forum- then this functions would not be needed. They do improve gameplay right now because we cannot do better, however it does not mean that there are not better options and that they are useful when you think on other level.
However the said command improve oorp stuff and metagaming- hence it is useless and there is alternative-spam in skype all day long.
My command proposition however do improve the team play and sever RP together with official factions.
Go figure for what is better to loose time to code.

What I see in it is basically a slightly modified player list. It only seems to differ from the in-game one, that instead showing group ID and rank number of all players online, it shows an additional list of names, set by the owners of the chars to know who is actually behind that char, and for a few only, your friends.

Right now I don't find it worthy to implement.

@ Erica:
The commands you brought as example are in fact improving gameplay.
/stuck is here to fix an issue which comes from the fact that originally this game wasn't intended for cap flight.
/ping is here to provide info about the player's connection to the server.
/help is here to help new players with a bunch of commands available to be used by them.
I don't find any oorp in presetting messages. They are oorp only if you set an oorp message.
Etc.

Then go make a thread about it?
There's no need to talk down on someone else's idea (with unhelpful feedback, I might add).

Constructive critism is one thing, that was just being a twit.

If this gets implemented, I'm totally adding you to my ingame friends list Erica.
