The "classic" Doctor Who often has story arcs which run over multiple episodes. These usually require viewing in the correct order.
New Doctor Who episodes do not always have interconnecting stories between episodes; it varies from season to season. However, there are often recurring motifs / Chekov's Gun-style story elements which have some significance in the season finale.
