Basically a Corsair base and an Outcast base 30-40 K away from each other.
Might be an attempt to get the two groups fighting again
nobody is going to fight in a system with explosive gas clouds that simply ruin your ship. they even take down my freighter shield no problem at all when i fly through there.
I had some of my guys escorting in scimitar, jesus christ they lost 60% of their bots and bats in about 10 seconds.
I dont believe VHF/HF would fare any better either, the pockets do not show up on the map so you just kind of wander into it and then you're screwed.
the sigmas are full of either explosive gas pockets or "DANGER, ENTERING SUN CORONA!" 'oh ffs not again'
making the Sigmas not such a pain in the ass to travel through would make them more active.

Normally that would have worked, if Outcasts and Corsairs still fought on a regular basis
if you want fights in sigmas, bring back the noob run.

lack of activity is down to the economy. commodity sell prices drive activity - the base with the higher sell price sees more action. the systems along the route see more action.
RP-based reasons for pew are hollow. just building a base there doesn't mean people will dock on it. RP doesn't give us a reason to DO things, it gives us the reasons why we can't do things. Money, the root of all evil, gives us motivation to shoot rocks (v. boring), or crawl around sirius hauling pixels from one place to another.
consider a base like a truck-stop diner. cops sit and eat donuts/ gangsters plot and eat pancakes, and then they ride out to right wrongs or wrong rights. if you build a truck-stop diner where there is no passing trade, the gangsters and the police wont visit.
We had to learn our gas pockets by heart. I've played in the Sigmas soo much that when lightning happens and based on the silhouette arrangements of far off miners and such I can know my location without the map.
Yeah but eventually it was going to happen, it doesn't take eternity to clean up that kind of mess. The tragedy would be if ALG and Junkers didn't get another job to do somewhere else, Sirius should have new graveyards to cleanup by now.
I will be happy to provide you with one - there's a whole new house navy to scrap.
And srsly, sig13 was nicer in vanilla. The only really bd thing about it wasthe direct and rapid connection with NB, but that has been fixed by moving the hole, not deleting it.
That JH only became bad when Disco began the necessary editing of the economy and it had to go or be moved to balance the cred/sec routes. I liked that JH and all the original Vanilla stuff for GMG, the area was blessed in that the original creators spent time on GMG and the Sigmas rather then slapping them in the game like the Gaians and thus GMG not only has tons of original lore and features but it's also detailed enough to pull together in a clear timeline. Still I'd be a fool to try and force GMG to stay Vanilla and not grow while the rest of Disco has progressed forward some 2 decades or so after the Nomad War of Vanilla.
