I see what you're getting at... and I approve somewhat. But I still don't want to see the stats doubled.
If BS stats are doubled, and these solo BS fights I am hearing so much about (Seriously, how often does a battleship go it alone? That's ooRP IMO anyways, but besides the point) happen. Then all's well and good, your objective is achieved. But what if that same battle happens and you have support? Be it fighters, GBs or whatever, the battleship just became godly. It already was a massive asset in supported battles when it had the old stats.
The thing is, battleships look so good. Uber hull and costing more than an arm and a leg. But I don't want them to become the -best- ship. Now maybe they won't, and the stat doubling will only make them last that much longer and all will go well. If that's so, I suggest you take it up with Igiss.
I still think a third or so boost of their stats would be more along the lines of reason.
Well I'd double anything from gunboat up, hulls all damages, except shield capacity. Becouse shields are one thing that can make it uber... on the other side nerf their hitting potential, by reducing projectile speeds.
Just some creative theory, of things I'd like to see as a Cap pilot.

There is too much capwhoring as it is. Serious efforts would have to be put in place for that to not increase exponentially. The LN abuses caps so badly already... I don't even want to think how that would go if caps doubled in armor/shields.
I think the fact that a few bombers can burn a BS in 5 minutes or so is fine. They are specifically made to stand up to these ships! Usually they only have 4 gun mounts, making their defense against fighters much less useful. I'm really tired of anyone who flies a capship getting burned by a few bombers then complaining that it's not fair and unbalanced. They are built for destroying capships. They did their job. You should have had fighter support. Period.
P.S. I'm not flying any bombers or capships right now, so I'm not biased in any way.
I've read all the posts in this and other topics about the inovations that some people want to bring to the new mode , involving the capital ships and more accuratly - the Battleship , Dreadnaught and Juggernaught class.
You said it yourself , that you do not fly such ships , then why might I ask , do you not want those ships getting a boost ? This server is made to be fun for everyone , well , it's surtanly not fun for the person who has spend a week in trading and alot more time in writing a story and purposs for a ship like that. Because , people are using his ship as a big target to train new reqruits in the ever growing art of bomber whoring.
I agree with the stats that have been presented in this topic , I also agree with the weapons ,aldo I find Jinx's ideas about the weapon systems to be better. Also , the battleships should have a range of something between the lines of 7-10k for the main artilery batteries wich should pack a punch. Other then that , Battleships should have anti-fighter/bomber cloce range weapons and having them shouldn't cripple the battleships role.
chopper - When a player fighter wing / bomber wing devition can , realisticly as you said , launch from a Battleship and serve as fighter support.Then I'll agree with your statements wich are now not constructive. When such a thing happens , I would agree with the CURRENT Battleship stats. Since that is unlikely to happen it obvios to see that such comments are not realy needed.
I support the idea of upgrading and updating captiol ships, however, doubling stats might be too much. the concept of slowing down projectiles is good though, effectively lowering, if not, nerfing it's anti fighter capeabilities, REQUIREING that battleships have an escort.
as of right now, capitol ships are easy prey for a pair of fighters and bombers. The only reason that I can see is that those who fly battleships neglect to invest in some sort of protectioin.
There used to be a time when someone yelled "CRAP! It's a battleship! FALL BACK!" It was not because of it's superior guns, but because battleships were assigned entire wings of fighers and squadrons of anti-fighter ships.
Battleships are supposed to be the base of operations for any craft in it's battlegroup, and if required, a forward battery against bases, fortifications, and other captiol ships.
Everything above Gunboat really could use abit of a boost in hull/shields, but really..
If you think a Battleship should be able to plow through a well-organized squadron of 3-6 Fighters/Bombers, you're just wrong.:P
The Battleship was never intended to be an assault vessel, it's supposed to be a defense vessel. The Battleship is what you use to "hold the line" while the rest of your comrades in Fighters/Bombers/Gunboats do the actual assaulting. Your support goes in first, and then your battleship comes in behind them to clean up after you and hold the position - that's how it's supposed to be. The only time it would be any different is if you were up against a capital armada, at which point your battleships/capital ships would run blocker for your smaller attack vessels (Fighters/Bombers). If this is what you meant by the Battleship being a "checkmate" move, then you're right, but I can't agree with you if you think that a Battleship should outdo five Fighters or three-four Bombers.
Feel free to increase the hull/shields, I personally wouldn't mind, but I don't think capital ships need anymore firepower. Currently most people don't use capital ships in the way that they're intended to be used, and that's why they get rolled so easily. You shouldn't expect to solo anything in a Battleship unless it's another capital ship, and this should never change in my opinion.
In short, I think Battleships (and Cruisers) could use a boost in nanos/batts and an increase in hull/shields, but aside from that they're fine.
