Hunted and the Haunted, Part Two

"One man can make a difference", they say, but at what cost, I ask. Never thought it would take such a turn, never expected it to happen over night, but life has always had a way of being insufferably unpredictable. The same person offering me an assignment less than a month ago, now is my assignment, and the party wanting her efficiently removed from the equation aren't even the ones she considers the enemy. Never expected to become involved in something like this, or at least not this involved in something like this.

The world is in no shape or form perfect, but still there are those who fight their way through the imperfection, hoping to get as close to their image of the perfect world as humanly possible, and that's the winning side - whether they win or lose. That's the side making sacrifices, disregarding the vague definition of friend or foe and willing to confront anyone standing in their way, be it a man from a nation they once called brothers, or a woman who was the right hand of their own former leader. It's only by accepting such sacrifices that one can hope for a brighter future, even if only slightly.

The sense of righteousness is a fluid and subjective concept, often a matter of pure coincidence. It's often one simple choice, one as simple as accepting or refusing an assignment, that'd suffice for a false sense of righteousness, and that's the reason why making such choices are never at all simple. It's mere luck, more often than not, when one makes the right choice in such times without being aware of the critical details, and luck is not something one can constantly rely on, and so the first step of every assignment, every target, anything that may appear to be a 'simple kill' at the first glance, is the search for the critical details people may have decided to keep to themselves for their personal gain.
