I have and love my Contrans. A single GS and it will stomp it pretty good. Single bombers are not that much of a problem. A bomber and a fighter you have about a 75% chance of eating it.

You can use transport turrets, kraken turrets, buckshot turrets even mix in two deb turrets into the mix it all depends on the ships faction aliance
keep in mind that the range of regular turrets is much shorter than transport turrets but have a higher refire rate

chainfiring type 4 transport turrets is your best bet. - mixing them with regular fighter turrets will screw your targetting up - and the range of fighter turrets is rather poor, too.

when you chainfire the transport turrets in a group of 4 maybe, you get a very good rapid-fire effect, enough to get even gunboat captains in some kind of trouble and make the life of bomberpilots considerably harder.

from the point of view of a pirate - its not only about the ability to threaten and pirate a liner, its also about the efford that is associated with it. - .... like: why should i as a pirate take on a liner that has like 2 times the armour and two times the weapons than a regular heavy transport, when i can just sit there and wait for another trader. for my char it would be ooRP to get into such a trouble. - so the fact that the liner CAN defend itself is enough to make me not go for it - intimidation is the key there. ( learned the hard way though )

when you do not chainfire the transport turrets, they are rather harmless though. their refire isn t really good enough to threaten an averagely piloted bomber, let alone a catamaran ( something the majority is using nowadays ) - but when you group the weapons and just keep the bomber busy enough ... your escorts ( that you will most certainly have ) has a MUCH easier life with every wrongdoer.

Tip to easily chainfire luxury liner guns:
You can set up 3 weapons group,
- Group 1: fire all guns
- Group 2: fire guns 4-5-6-7
- Group 3: fire guns 8-9-10-11
Assign keys to fire group 2 and group 3 weapons (assign themwhere comfortable, and close one to the other)
When you decide to attack something, do this:
- Fire group 3
(0,25 s delay or so, don't remember exactly)
- Fire group 2
( delay)
- Fire All weapons

This way, only pressing fire all from that point will keep auto-chainfiring due to weapons own refire rates, unless you stop firing, which requiers you to begin the cycle again, or when you noticed that because of firing arcs, guns begin to fire whenever they want.

That makes the 2,00 transport turrets into something like 6,00. 1/3 of the damage, but x5 chances of a volley hitting.
