Official Faction Activity Checks

I wouldn't really call 3 or 4 people a faction. Official factions should be (relatively) large and hold power. If it's just 3 or 4 people puttering around, I can't really see them being in control of X company/military/whatever.

They don't contribute to server roleplay if they're just logging for an hour to fly around out of sympathy for a faction they're not really playing.

This sounds very familiar to me, as personal experience and disliked it. But yea, enough about the past.

On topic - Karst has a good point, therefore i'm voting 4 even though i think 5 is fine as well. Hopefully i won't regret it in the future.

I voted 3. We are still not taking into account that some factions are not represented and we need to encourage people to fill those voids. I think OS&C, as a random example, would find it hard to break into officialdom with a minimum of 4, let alone 5.

I am leader of an inofficial faction, so that takes most of my time. Jet I take an Interest in BPA) and have a Character there. I listen in, I log if available for response duty, and if I have time, I fly my patrol for 1 - 3 hours.

Am I active or not ?

They (one little bird told me) defined active as minimum 1 hour per month.

Well, it's a game with pretty inherent limits. The server is limited to 140 players currently, and the entire active community probably isn't more than two to three hundred.
Of course a faction isn't going to have two dozen active members in this climate, but a much lower number.
A faction with fewer active members could contribute perfectly well, and a faction with more might not.
Disco factions are a small-scale business. Most don't have much more than five members, if even.

Maybe I should mention at this point that I am a faction leader, and my faction is definitely not endangered by this activity rule. I simply believe that 5 "active" members isn't a good indication of how much a faction is doing.
Neither are pure hours, of course. I don't think a compromise between the two is unreasonable, but the ratio is completely messed up.

Previously "active" meant one hour of activity, as far as I know that's remained the same.

As I said before, 5 is too much, 4 is fine in my opinion. However I don´t see really big problem when faction has just three really active members when they are to be seen in game and are able to handle also forums stuff. Lot of factions had their "weak" time period with having just three players, later they caught their breath and gathered more again.

Therefore I vote 3.

I feel 5 is a little much. I voted 4. I don't think factions should be kicked if in some months they can only get 3. But, let's be real: it should be possible to get 4 to participate a little. One cooperative flight per month is not hard to organise, if the factions wants to be official. To be official, a certain minimum of ingame presence is necessary. And that limit is even in the low side, imo. So... 4... I think it's okay if the judgement process is not draconic.

I think it's so difficult to put numbers on this.

From what I've seen, some unofficial factions are way better than some official ones, some official factions with few members and scarce activity roleplay and contribute more than some very active official factions.

I am also not entirely convinced that it's better to have some official faction for an ID than none. Not all factions are all that great.

it's a game and it should be fun to log and not "u have to log for activity needs"...

beside that there is still the 24 hrs./month - rule - imho 20 hrs./month would be enough.
... and there is some "work" to do on the forums to stay informed "up to date" and keep up forum-rp for official factions...

disco should be fun and not become an additional part-time-job!

every official faction can have more players and more monthly activity-hours if they WANT,
but the minimum-standards should be easy to reach, even for small groups!
