Actually, the template thing isn't a bad idea at all. I know it sucks for all of us that have worked hard for our reps, but I've got no problem with doing a time-saver like this in the future.
How would one work? When mounting the ID would the rep board be forced according to a template? Could it be done on-the-fly without taking the server down?
' Wrote:The idea of using TEMPLATES (not a batch-routine) is pretty old and has already been discussed here a lot.
Nomatter how usefull and sensefull the use of templates might be, as it does not only make things easier, and would solve that permanent "ref-fix - issue" the adminteam doesn't seem to like this idea.
[color=#CC9933]They want the players to work for their desired rep, period!
On my old server, which was also an RP related server, we only made the best experiences with the use of templates, as everyone could start with the desired faction and faction relating basic equipment and participate in RP from the start on - no mess with faulty IFF, and of course noone needed an ID.
As it was very, very hard to improve the rep with another faction but very easy to lose rep (except the faction you started with), a char once created
usually never had the prob with switching IFF, the decission (affiliation) you made at the start usually never changed. At least not as long as you
played your role well, if you messed it up on purpose it could turn out that there was no more neutrals or friendlies left - which was the perma
death of that chars as it was no more playable.
So everything that was green was friendly and everything that appeared red was hostile pretty clear thing - but over here the idea is just not wanted.
So it doesn't make too much sense to start this senseless discussion again.
I don't consider this a senseless discussion.
While I do have several characters on the server that I have started with the intention of becoming something and have transferred in funds for them, I also enjoy greatly starting someone completely from scratch and seeing where they develop and go.
What that means is that by the time that character has lived long enough - and with the time investment of more than 100 hours of game play in that character alone - they've managed to get green and red with all sorts of factions. Now that this character has matured, and I know what he wants to do - physically GETTING the right IFF is going to take almost as long as getting him built up in the first place.
We also now have, with the ability to name change easily, the chance for criminals to redeem themselves (or vice-versa). Just as Trent in the SP version suddenly found himself with an instant ID change, we could have a character who decides to turn over a new leaf. That way someone who is tired of playing a criminal could do a name change, ID change, and now his crook is a trader.
.setrep ? Think you'll find that won't work for almost every player here, bar around ten.
Neither will the .resetrep either ... They are currently not an option.

Well, I did not say that the option was senseless, just the discussion as the admin-team just doesn't like this idea too much, even when some admins do like it, the majority doesn't.
The repfix you're thinking of I would not agree to - as it would mess up the whole RP and the tought behind it as there for sure were many players abusing this abbility as it's done since players can do a namechange themselfs.
Exception for an existing char was only thinkable to me if such a repfix would cost at least 100 mill. credits to prevent abuse.
The templates we used were (re)starting-templates, usefull when you wanted to set up a new character with correct rep and equipment - if you used that on an existing char you would've been thrown back to a level 5-10 char, so noone ever used it on an existing char.
Well. I think the setting the reputation template thing has been talked to a lot with valid points etc. The new idea was that equipping (the action itself) teh ID would trigger the bribe effect. So it's not a template in itself really. Just using the game mechanics a bit differently.
And as far as I know there are no existing bribes for a lot of factions out there.
Could this be abused some how? Probably, but mainly I can think of "loaning" the ID to someone. But who would want to loan the ID???
