Too many players are whining, that they have to read (and maybe to translate lots of words, lots of words, like me) lots of rules. For me (native german), i spend hours in reading, translating words, understanding and learning the rules, and it sucks, because small, fundamental rules are better than lots of pages, ...

...but: Freelancer game engine have machines in it, that arent good for RP, as i know - we can buy a ship from the dragons, if we have -5,9 red rep point to them, for example. So i dont know a better way to bring FL into RP as with much rules, that we have. And yeah, too much rules to say "Read 1/2 to 1 hour before playing, to understand the rules!" to a newbie isn't good for the FL Game at all, when he only want to take a look into "the" online version of the game, DISCOVERY. A newbie, that get FL from a friend, make the SP-Story, and scan WWW to find out, that Discovery is the most used mod. Then he starts as a starflier pilot in NY, like the most of us do. Maybe he decided to fly around only to sightseeing Disco's NY, without reading rules. When he is more interested in disco, he will read all rules, but for "have-a-look-onto-it" maybe he dont.

My suggestion is to make an in-game-command, like "/rules", or set this short concentration as preambel to the rules.

Rules: Small Version (strongly concentrated)

1. Read the complete version of the rules.
If you want to play here, you have to read and understand all rules. Not knowing the rules does not relieve any player from responsibility.

2. Dont cheat! You become catched and banned!

3. Using coarse language, posting abusive, hateful, racist content in chat, public or private, is prohibited under any circumstances. Kids are here, too..
Be nice and friendly to all, you meet here. Please choose a RP-able name.
Out-of-character (OOC) chat should not be used for system chat, except in emergencies.

5. PvP combat is allowed only on roleplay basis. The pilot who is attacking must scan for an ID prior to the attack. There are no restrictions for self-defense. PvP is freely allowed in Connecticut only. Before engaging players into a PvP fight outside Conneticut, read here.

6. ID and role-playing engagement rules:
Every player must have an ID equipped on his or her ship.
Carrying or transferring any unmounted IDs in player ship is prohibited.
This a role-playing server. Do not use equipment or ships from your enemy. Read all rules, if you want to roleplay here.

7. Dont collect too much stuff. See here for the limits.

I went my way to disco, as my old server was "dead". Not off, but low visited, 5 guy on it. As i was young here, i did lots of things with Order ID, which i shouldnt, after reading admins sanction posts it is much clearer. Now i know, what i am allowed to do, i hope.

I hoped also, i do not become stoned to death because of rule manipulation, or rule lawyering. Its my suggestion for the shortest "must-read" version of the rules.

What do you think about it? Is this useful?

There's a "rules" commodity avaliable on all the capital planets (including Crete and Malta), and that you start with, that covers this.

I suppose the problem comes if people don't bother to read the commodity infocards...

I would say, if console speaks it out, maybe we can reach more player.

approved - the flhook command could redirect them to go buy the damn rules if they didn't find the rule they were looking for....

or we could make it a rule that everyone has to carry <strike>chairman mao's</strike> discovery's rule book with them at all times

Console already does speak out some of the rules.
The problem is that people dont read them. no matter where they are.
If I boarded their ships, marched up to the cockpit and stuck
the rules in the captains face, they still wouldnt read it.

They'd go crosseyed at the closness, order me off their ship,
arm the cannons and go "Pew pew". "Hahaha. Nub. You're dead."

The rules usually are updated after a mod has been released. Also, new versions do not get released every week.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

I really like this idea, but it would have to be pretty dang condensed, because the FL screen can only fit so much on it. Also at the end, it could direct them to the forums, and the commodity for in depth things.

Also - it could only have the most questioned rules, such as PVP thrusting/cruising, RP pirating/trading, and death ones.

I'm sure the command would not be hard to make. (But what do I know about flhook...)
