Edit-The use of Console Chat was the one I remember in Gen Chat.

I generally differentiate colors depending on which faction the characters belong. Dark red for CR, Pure red for Coalition and Gateway, Light blue for GRN, Orange for Council, Purple for Nomads etc. And if there are way too many chars in a story, i use different colors for their speeches too.
