Natio Octavarium Official Government Press Release
Over the last several months, Natio Octavarium has gone quiet, leading to a great deal of speculation outside our borders. In the absence of concrete information, there has been a great deal of speculation. It is the purpose of this communication to clear up any confusion and explain the events of the last few months.
On New Year's Day, the Fourth Octavarium Fleet was hosting a demonstration of jump drive technology equipped on the Fleet's newest exploratory ship for members of the Octavarium Cabinet. The drive had been tested previously and was thought to be functioning reliably, so the Fleet's leadership felt comfortable hosting all five members of the Cabinet as well as the Fleet's own leadership aboard the ship for the demonstration. Unfortunately, the demonstration did not go as intended. The ship did not appear at the target location, and did not return to Canberra at the scheduled time.
A subsequent investigation by the Octavarium Intelligence Commission and forensic engineers from Aquila Defense Systems concluded that the incident was more likely a tragic accident rather than deliberate sabotage. The ship was lightly crewed and fully stocked for an exploratory expedition. With no evidence that the ship was destroyed in the incident, the possibility remains that our leadership will eventually return to us. The Octavarium Government is offering a reward for information leading to the successful recovery of our people.
In the immediate aftermath, the remaining officers of the Fourth Octavarium Fleet, fearing that the malfunction was sabotage ahead of an enemy invasion of our territory, declared martial law and placed Octavarium territory on lockdown. As the immediate danger passed, day-to-day governance was handed over to a Provisional Council led by OMG Guildmaster John Riley. In the weeks ahead, we will be holding elections to transfer power from the Provisional Council to a more permanant government.
We feel that the time has come to reopen our borders and resume contact with the rest of Sirius. All previous treaties and agreements remain in force. We thank our friends in the Crayter Republic for helping us maintain order and stability in these uncertain times.
The Lane Hackers are very pleased to hear that the turbulence affecting Natio Octavarium in the past few months has come to an end. If there is anything we can do to assist our allies, please let us know.
In this private communication we would also like to congratulate Guildmaster Riley for his role and we look forward to working with him as well as with any other member of the Provisional Council.
