Alma to Receive Captured Warships
ALMA - Captain Frederick Simmons announced his approval earlier today of the transfer of two Interdictor divisions from Missouri command to the Alma. This transfer comes as a response to increased Insurgent activity within Magellan, which the Captain says is a threat that he 'appreciates Naval command is taking seriously'. The ships in question comprise mainly of those that were captured earlier in the month after the first of several Insurgency waves began moving out of the Wendell Ice Field in eastern Magellan. While the ships alone are not as advanced as current 'Interdictor Twos' being built at shipyards like Norfolk, they nonetheless provide valuable support to Naval border patrols and supply efforts.
Captain Simmons has announced his decision to deploy these new vessels to the Magellan front in the coming weeks, along with supporting vessels from the California garrison, in an effort to lock down the growing battlefield that appears to be manifesting itself near Cordova Shipping Platform. After the escape of more Insurgency vessels, this time without the support of the mysterious freelance vigilantes that aided against the first wave, Captain Simmons has vowed to 'ensure that we tighten their window of escape'.
In light of this, Naval West Command has placed a general alert for Cordova Shipping Platform, and has announced that civilian traffic through Magellan risks confrontation with hostile forces, regardless of affiliation or origin. Orders were also sent for patrols operating in Magellan to begin covering territory within the Barrier Rim, although no opposition has yet been reported. Captain Simmons does not anticipate the need for Alma to deploy in full, and has said that he has faith in his subordinates to handle matters within the Independent Worlds.
