**QCG note: In Rheinland, the rank of Officer Cadet "Offiziertanwerter" immediately precedes Lieutenant. All Military College of Rheinland graduates receive that rank after completing a 2-year training process, where they learn military doctrine, leadership skills and the rudiments of being an effective fighter pilot. Normally, Officer Cadets get promoted to Lieutenant once they complete their first tour of duty, either on board a battleship or planet-side. Even if an Officer Cadet is a full-fledged officer, he can be saluted only by the soldiers which he was designated to lead. Outside his unit, he is considered a senior non-commissioned member.
