Most people like the 'little revolution that could' story, aka the 'righteous underdog', so groups like Mollys and Xenos and Hessians become slightly corrupted.
My Hessian is a straight up self interested pirate.
Ironically Yarr is not a straight up pirate (or at least, he doesn't see himself that way).

Well, they have their own way of looking at things... *Shrugs*
Wait...what!?!

Funny, the rest of us fine-upstanding traders sure see him that way! :D

Yes it is, and dare I say, also a violation of Rule 1.2. This sort of action is incredibly detrimental to server gameplay as it's just stroking the ego of the offending pirate w/o giving any thought to the other player.
Hey, maybe someone special will get an idea. It's about time another random PvP group with thin roleplay started up.

Hey, I was just pointing out that by some stereotypes, the pirates would take over and/or destroy your ship before taking your cargo and every penny you have - which is an impossible thing to do in Disco.
' Wrote:The Molly republic disbanded. The rest of them got out-competed by those 2 mil nutters you mention. There is a solution though:
Declare "2milordai" a rule 1.1 (roleplaying required) violation. Puts the kybosh on the lot of them, and might generate a significant amount of sanctions. But it will make being pirated more enjoyable to have interaction accompanying the tax.
Nah man, I think you mis understood.
I wasn't talking about 2mrdai, I was talking about... erm...
EXAMPLE TIME!
You: Yo, miner, cough up some <variable>
Some pirate on PM: Yo, don't pirate him yo, he's under my protecshun.
You (Thinking to yourself): Why the Hell would you protect this guy for a -single- payment of 2-3 mil?
I know that I am not exactly a long time player, but even I have seen the spectrum width when it comes to piracy.
My trader was stopped with "1 mil", I said what? Bang, dead! At the other end of the scale, I have been stopped by someone who RP'd a 10 minute conversation with me and then taxed me 2 food! (Thanks SeaFalcon, best RP yet!).
Sadly there seem to be very few RPing Pirates compared to Pay-or-Die muggers!

If I pirate wants to chat with you or not, it's his prerogative.
However, the longer he talks the more chance of him dying. It's hard to talk to traders when you're sure they're screaming for backup, man.
We had this protection racket with the Cartel. I distinctly remember signing one trader up, and as soon as he exited into the next system he ran into another pirate. Sure enough he called for help and since we were only one system away we got there in less than a minute. Needless to say the other pirate gave up his pirating attempt when faced with 3 Sabres acting in an incredibly aggressive way.
So yes, protection rackets are viable RP. But if you're getting a PM from someone saying "don't mess with this guy" I'd just laugh it off and merrily continue my piracy.
Then there's the whole idea that traders have that pirates shouldn't be pirating for credits but to "provide an RP experience." Zealot said it best in the Sails feedback when he said that if pirates don't care about credits, they aren't RPing pirates well. And it's true. A trader's lifeblood is the credits he generates trading. A pirate's lifeblood is the credits/cargo he plunders. Why pirate if you're going to pirate for jokes or something else equally intangible? Do you need to be aggressive in order to ask for a song or joke or something equally silly? Nope, not in the least bit.
