I'll wait until a month or so passes after it is officially released to the public. I'll let others deal with the headaches and benefit from it after the issues are resolved.

Doesn't matter whether you trust them or not, eventually they'll stop making stuff compatible with Windows XP. Namely, DirectX. Still enjoying your DX9? I think we're up to DX11 over here in win7 land... but I haven't been keeping track. Eventually they'll stop making hardware that supports Windows XP compatibility as well.
Then you'll have to move on or be left in the dark ages. You can't stop progress, you're only hurting yourself by not upgrading:)
While right now there is not much difference between using Win7 and XP, give it a year or two and XP will be redundant. TBH I think it sounds like you gave up on win7 before you even tried it with your whole "XP is the best FULL STOP" attitude.
He may have given up because he couldn't get it to run on his current rig. I know I can't because my mobo doesn't have an updated driver for Win 7. I know another member of this community that was having problems getting their PC to run 7 due to hardware issues. Its part of upgrading an OS.
It isn't Microsoft's fault either. They can't make their OS compatible with every piece of hardware out there.
Bought a laptop the other day and it came with absolutely nothing except for the machine itself and power equipment.
The only real instructions I found when I opened the laptop up to start it for the first time.
Basically they said 'turn it on and walk away', which I did, but I sat and watched it.
It came with Win 7 premium and I must say I'm sort of impressed and sort of not.
I haven't used it a lot, the main reason I got it is for when I go to Singapore in about a week, so I can dump photos on it and check my e-mail.....and play Disco when/if I get the time.
Not impressed with the mail system, too hard, do NOT want.
I grabbed 'Thunderbird' and set that up, along with 'Firefox' because IE was being stubborn and not connecting.
Apart from those two niggles, Win 7 seems to be ok....so far.
Mind you I have no plans to update the OS on my desktop, I've been running XP (SP3) for what seems like eons now and it is the most stable platform I've seen since Win '98.
Current uptime for my system atm is over 4 days, which is basically since the last MS update. ;)
