Well, I was just thinking, like I do when I've a touch of insomnia, and I was wondering if a lot of people are like myself, and do a large proportion of their roleplaying in group chat, as opposed to system chat?
Is it bad to be doing this, or does it depend on the character?
group chat is a mixture - i d say its 50 / 50. only chance i get a group is as LPI Fezini anyway. however, i consider system chat roleplay much much more important. showing a transparent and plausible roleplay in system affects others. while roleplaying in a group can result in others not seeing it to misinterprete what you do.
i remember someone complaining about pvp whores in gamma, and the answer was "we roleplay in group". all fine, but for that one person outside the group - it has no effect at all. so groupchat should be roleplay, yes - but also a way to coordinate roleplay in systemchat. sadly that the the chatsystem fails so much about that.( switching /PM, /group, /system + fighting sometimes = impossible )
I am trying to do start that in TBH groups too. We're trying but we also have a lot of new recruits. It's definitely worth the effort. I mean playing FL without OOC's completely.
I once was a part of an event (The Rescue of Emilio Torres) in a large corsair group, and I remember Carlos and Ferono Benitez roleplaying even on TeamSpeak. Man, that was amazing! I loved it. They taught me a lot that day.
All depends on whom is in my group determines if i RP in group or not. 90% of the time if im in a group with all RoS members we don't rp because its just a friendly group chat the usual stuff you would do with friends in RL. but if someone is in group and wanting to or 'is' Rp'ing in group i am more than willing to join in with him/her. personally group chat is like a chill out zone for me but as i said there has been quite a few infact numerous occasions i have rp'ed in group with another faction or another player.

Man, I'd love to do that. Too bad my spoken English isn't that good. But I'll try it.
Anyway, I try to RP in group chat the most I can. Even though it really depends on the group, I noticed that even when there's only one person trying to RP in a ooRP group chat, the rest tend to follow. So keep it up.
I agree that OOC chat should not be in the game at all.
Private chat sure thats fine, thats the spot for ooc. The fun part of the game is to give some curry to the opposing factions through the open channel. Thats the whole idea of having factions, ranks and roles.
Hey sure if someone gets upset by that then you've done your job....(not a bad idea at that point to pull them aside in private chat and remind them that we aren't really going to blow each other up....r-e-l-a-x, it's all fun, actually forget that last bit.....they're going down).......
But it's really distracting to be flying through New York and hear people talking about another game that they've been playing. etc etc.
Thats just plain lazy....
I know it's a lot of extra scrolling and typing but you know, it's about the other 127 people online at the time that are trying to enjoy the game too.
Wouldn't hurt to be enforced a little ...say with minor wrist slaps. Nah forget that too next person that does it ...i'm getting my battleship and gonna bust everyones head.
Like most, the group-channel is my spam box, im a real blabbermouth when it comes to group-chat, i just say whatever i want, when i want and how i want to say it:)
We do RP in group-chat although its fairly mixed together, when a different faction is in the group, its limited to RP unless the invited party is babbling OOC as well...
We have a simple way to keep the OOC chat out of system-chat when we are making a patrol/attack or whatever actually.. the highest ranking officer is the one that will talk in sys-chat. We do encourage sys-chat RP but its getting harder and harder to pull it off with all the OOC chatter out there....
My trader(s) will allways be in RP, and whatever i say its allways in character... this way its easier for me and easier for the rest of the world to know what im babbling about...:)
