Its no more powergaming than shooting an npc ingame - i.e. none at all. NPCs are very usefull for rping e.g: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?...pic=101153
You can pretty much do what you like with NPCs, although having them tell you restricted info about the faction would probly be considered powergaming by many people.

It might not necessarily be powergaming, but it definitely is a taboo around here. Generally, not something I would do if I wanted to initiate a serious RP encounter here on the forum. Most people like to have a vague control over what happens to their characters and their characters' factions. Even if there is some challenge posed to your character, it isn't really fun when suddenly a Slave Liner shows up on the forum saying "I'LL KILL ALL 4000 LPI I DECIDED TO FARM WHILE THE SERVER WAS ON KIWI TIME IF YOU DON'T GIVE ME 100,000,000 BY HIGH NOON TOMORROW, SHERIFF!"
That said, if a Slave Liner decided to do this ingame and not over the forum, it would go over a little easier. For some reason, everyone seems a little more open to fun when they're actually playing the game. And there's the fact that if there's a Slave Liner by Planet Pittsburgh with 4,000 LPI, it suddenly becomes a tangible challenge instead of some jerkwad on the other side of space you'll likely never see.
Moral of the story: taboo goes over better when you do it ingame and not on the forum.
