' Wrote:I was referring to the Gamma bio dome. The number of times you must have flown past it to get to or from Theta for example in either your BH or Corsair. It had nothing to do with metagaming, merely surprise.
Oh, well then forgive me. My BHGC character hasn't stepped into Gamma in about three years (really, I haven't sent him in there since 4.84, maybe 4.83) and whenever my Corsair flies from Gamma to Theta, I usually just alt-tab out during the flight and read CNN while my Corsair keeps flying. The last time I looked at the Gamma-Theta route was months ago when some Outcasts invaded, and I wasn't even paying attention to my surroundings at the time, only the enemy ships. Any other travel along the Gamma-Theta route happened too long ago for me to remember what my surroundings were.
I need to have my Corsair fly to Theta...the fact that I don't know that Gamma has a biodome is actually pretty sad like you said.
' Wrote:As for Crete soil, I think Crete surface had Greece in mind, thus lack of fertile land. To fix it up, Corsairs need to run some terraforming proccesses, which they can do (if Sylpheed's Rogues stole the best engineers in the Sirius, why can't Sairs take a couple of scientists from Camridge?), but can't, as it'll change them too significantly, especially for our devs. Current relations with Kusari are another choice, as well as agressive attempt to retake Camridge or Stuttgart.
Relationship with Synth Foods would be one more interesting option, however current Synth Foods is dead, unfortunately.
Back to the subject at hand, I think Crete's inability to produce enough food isn't about the infertility of the soil, I think it's more about lack of soil at all. Crete is supposed to be very mountainous throughout the entire surface, leaving little soil for food. I don't know if any amount of terraforming can change that.
Also, would Liberty really be any more friendly to the Corsairs than their enemies, Bretonia and Rheinland? Corsairs smuggle artifacts into Liberty. I'm sure the Liberty government isn't thrilled about this. Any friendly relations with a House would probably be with Kusari or maybe even Gallia. While artifacts are smuggled through Kusari via the Hogosha, the Hogosha are somewhat tolerated in Kusari, making relations with Kusari much more friendly than with Liberty. As for Gallia, the Gallic government would probably want Corsair artifacts to study the Nomads since the Gallics have had no prior encounter with them. Gallia and the Corsairs would probably make good business partners since Gallics would probably buy artifacts from the Corsairs for their research. Plus, they both hate Bretonia.

The corsairs not having food for all of them, and yet they spam caps. Very unrealistic.
Oh my... looks like Monty is going to be having less company...
If corsairs spent their money on furthering industrial growth instead of capital war ships, they would easily be able to feed their entire nation, and due to that the planet is over populated further expansion onto stations and other areas would make them (in the long run) much more dangerous.
1 CAU8 Legate = 1.6 billion credits
1 ton of food rations from kusari = 66 credits
so 1 legate is equal (potentially) to 25,075,757 million shipped tons of food rations to crete.
a single human (from what ive managed to find) eats 25 tons in their lifetime.
so a single legate could feed 1,003,030 Corsair citizens. for their entire life. comfortably. or it could feed 4,012,121 Corsair citizens comfortably for 25 years (assuming 100 years is the max life span)
I dont actually know the population of Crete, so im not sure how much a dent that would put in the starvation marker. however im pretty sure its not nearly as bad as earth, (6/7bil)
also this is just corsairs working themselves out of starvation alone, not taking into account any ammount of external help from food grown, or delivered by 3rd parties.
Corsairs! Laydown your arms and live a peaceful life.. until the Maltese come again, lol..

Too many assumptions for that to be valid..
Corsairs eventually becoming self-sufficient in food and becoming a lawful house follows the law of unattainable objectives. That is, the players will RP to work towards those goals, but they won't be attained anytime soon. The lack of food forms one of the basic pillars of 'sair RP, so unless something of equal magnitude happens to replace it (say, an asteroid impact that kills off most of the population) it will remain.
to know what corsairs are about - its best to let the 3 faction LEADERS write up what they think - cause THEY set the course.
we have long left vanilla canon - so its ALL subjectivly
the player wishes and the way how factions "like" to consider their factions proceeds a lot faster than the game mechanics can develope. - furthermore, they often differ greatly, cause they are not coordinated with the dev team, which is meant to set certain changes "into stone".
what we get is a garbled version of wishful lore and hard facts - factions bending between what the dev team likes to keep as a faction balance - and what players think they "deserve" to have.
sadly, the conclusion is that we mess up faction dependencies and balances and end up with - well... funny alliances, funny powers and usually godlike factions (no weakness)
to be spot on:
- corsairs and biodomes same as corsairs and lawful house and corsairs and fully self sufficient is as desirable as outcasts deciding to take the positive points of cardamine addiction and rewriting the lore so that cardamine has no negative side effects. - that practicly makes them angels, who bring long life and hightened senses to all sirius.
the point is - it isn t like that.
- factions in freelancer are SIMPLIFIED - they are using a black and white scheme. - take away the black and you re left with the white only. whats the hackers without their hate against liberty? - whats the gaians without gaia? whats the blood dragons that realize that the kusari goverment is the best thing that can happen? whats the xenos who are given the best jobs available? etc.
edit:
there was once a raw description of what the factions of freelancer are meant to be based on... ( maybe i can find the original again somewhere )
corsairs are meant to be based on stereotype pirates. they fight like dogs for what they need - but they show a surprising style and honour. they have a code of chivalry which makes them strong - as well as a very strong bond of friendship. so you might find a wing leader duel for his squad against a stronger foe rather than deceive the opponent. - they don t do hidden ambushes, but they proudly show their colours before they attack.
they justify their actions based on their basic needs. they attack those who have fulfilled their basic needs, not cause they are "good people" but cause it is their basis of society. they feel victims of the sabotage and left behind. they have seen EVERY other group flourish. NO other faction in sirius suffers starvation - that is why they are fierce about it and hate the others, cause they feel that they deserve the same at least.
they consider many other factions rediculous, cause they fight for little things ( like gaia ) - while they ( corsairs ) have to fight for the most basic survival.
that is also what fuels their hate against the outcasts ( aside form blaming them for the bombing ). outcasts are pirates without the need to fulfil their basic needs - they have no justification to fight.
the baseline is - corsairs do not get what they NEED. so they MUST take it.
take away what they NEED - and you take away their justification.
from a point of view of where they corsairs get their NEEDS from - it doesn t matter who supplies them.... as long as they are scammed / ripped off. ( yea, sounds funny maybe ) relationship to other factions that fulfil their needs is not to be friendly - the corsairs HATE whoever supplies them, so they can keep up their justification to be the victims of the other sirians.
but then - there is also progression and evolution. - there factions just gotto make sure they don t go the way of the Molly Republic - which took away their legitimite reason to exist by becoming bretonian citizens. ( but which is one of the few faction that might be labelled "you won the game" )

Igiss doesn't approve, sorry. More capitals for Disco!
P.S.
You also forget that Corsairs also pillage building materials and the fact that when you buy your CAU8 Legate you send all money to the ship dealer. Thus the brave captains in big Osirises loaded with Solaris cannons actually give credits to the nation to survive. Because... When have you seen a Corsair in your Store, purchasing building materials?
1 - crete is full of metal (despite the fact that a few legates seems to have a mass equal the mass of the planet itself), so you have essential stuff for hull. engine components, gold for wiring, superconductors, multiplexors, fuel - everything of this is pirated/exchanged for artifacts/salvaged from random ships after fights.
2 - the council of corsair elders does follow the storyline to become a lawful and self-sustaining house, although such an achievement would destroy the faction gameplay, so it is not something that will eventually happen or be reflected in the mod. such developement would eventually turn sirius into a place where everyone shakes hands in drinks tea while eating baguettes with sausages - doing all that with japanese food sticks, while reading the liberty stock market news and dancing around a mexican hat with a cardamine inhaler on their face. so - no, thank you.
i swear there was another point i wanted to mention, i jus tforgot halfway through.
