All I want to underline is that a) it's 50/50, neither is a special little snowflake. and b) most traders already make cash somehow.

What you call incompetent would assume all ores are the same, all space is the same to all traders AND that the trader specifically is out looking to haul for miners. Which most of us aren't.

As for miners not facing pirates.
I've mined quite a few times.
Never once met a pirate other than while hauling.

You must have bad luck.

My go-to silver miner charges 2mil / 1000 ore. It takes him 5 minutes or less to fill my Bison. He gets 8 mil, and I give him a bit more when the field starts getting depleted. This was the rate he proposed, though, knowing it sells for 9m/1000 in NT. Then again there's a friendly base to flee to less than 10k away.

So how does that work, then? You find a random trader and make them drop what they're carrying in order to haul your ore?

Sure, if you're just picking up random traders, then you'll take what you get, I suspect. Of course, if you're just sitting there mining expecting random traders to show up and pay for your ore, I think you're probably not making as much as you could.

For this to be in any way effective.
It has to be a dedicated transport.
Otherwise the trader's only saving you a trip you obviously don't want to do yourself.

Also, I stopped mining waaaay back..

Mined a lot in Tau 23, Cambridge, Leeds, Omega 11 and Munich.

NPC fighters take a little but not enough to worry about.

If it gets hectic I think the odd drop can get shot up but that's about it.

Seriously I don't find it a problem.

I see the "over priced" ore as an off set.

1. the hauler doenst mine it
2. The miner doesnt haul it.
3. They are both sitting ducks until the job is done
4. The miner stays in one place even after the mining op
5. The destination of the hauler is pretty obvious
6. the cost is typically spit to offset the time spent

I always go by, "The quantity is better than the bulk quantity." Wha?

Meaning, I have a low flat rate for all my mining ops, reguardless of the ore mined. That way I get more customers and thus offsets the lower costs. I could charge more, but would you believe I look more for the role play that goes along with mining than then mining?

Dont nerf the mining $ again. There was a period of time where the Devs turned off the mining because we complained about this very thing again and again. Leave the rocks be ok?

There are good cargo runs in and out of house space, defendable ships, and pirates are getting slightly more reasonable. Go figure.

I've always thought about 50% for an unaffiliated mining/transport duo. For a friendly faction associate, it's more in the 0-30% range, depending.

Hiya;

While I'd love to mine frequently and at a low cost to bring in customers and roleplay, in my timezone with my availability that means I don't have time to earn much money at all let alone should I employ that tactic, and in a universe full of loltraders the outlook of a lonely Bretonian lad mining in a dank field all day, for roleplay is pretty slim for the most part.

I certainly don't hope you think I'm complaining about the system - I love the balance and thought put into the mining mod and if you look at the numbers, it works out pretty darn well. While field depletion is a bit of a pain in the butt it's entirely reasonable, realistic and necessary for balance. I'm not complaining about the system, not even about inter-player ore pricing, just querying others to see their thoughts on this.

I'm iffy on some of your closing points but that's for another thread; although I'm more than happy to agree with your "too much bickering" remark.

I just didn't think there was bickering in this thread.

PS: It occurs to me that the title may seem provocative. "The price of ore is too damn high" comes from a meme caused by a similarly named political party; I'm certainly not making a stab at the dev's setting of prices.
