Quote:And no... Freelancers DO NOT work only for money, Mercs do. Freelancers are individuals that choose to not be part of any organization, be it corporation, police or pirates.
Finally someone gets it. Its a choice. Now how do we make it a good one?
I've been rping this for the better part of a year now and this is what I've seen and done.
Seen:
Freelancer ID ships assisting Mercs
Freelancer ID ships assisting pirates
Freelancer ID ships acting like the faction ship they have.
What I do:
-I make it very clear with a group who I am and what my intentions are. Even do some work for *gasp* free to get in the front door.
-Register, Register, Register, with them. Having both your word and their word you help/work for them gives you creedence.
-Know your limits. This is what gets everyone into trouble. They think because they got in, or invited or asked, they can ask as if they've been doing it for ever.
-Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. You have a ship, you have guns, and you have an army behind you. You're still a freelancer. Remember that.
It almost was easier when we had those Freelancer Merc, Pirate, Trader ID's but it was like walking around with a sign on your chest telling everyone what you were. Now that we got overly generic, Freelancers have to think *gasp* before they engage in activities that involve other players, the blowing up kind of activities mainly. But, that's how it always should be anyway.
Freelancers dont want to be tied to a faction, but they want a peice of the action, and gain a measure of pvp satisfaction. Hey that rhymed.
Thing is, if you're a freelancer and keep blowing up trade ships and stealing their cargo, get a pirate ID.
If you're a freelancer who wants to be a sirius wide do-gooder, Be a bounty hunter.
If you still want to be free and be a freelancer and get the occational pew pew with little work, offer to escort ships, either unlawful or lawful. You'll be in the position to fire on attackers or run like a screaming child when there are too many bad guys.
