some friends and I returned to this game after a long hiatus, and well it looked like the devs added a couple new features since 4.85.
Regarding base building, what kind of rule restrictions are there on this sort of thing? Are we required to be in a player faction? Are we supposed to be approved by anyone?
And the player interactions? Are we directly (by choosing which commodities our base can buy and sell) able to influence existing trade routes? What kind of interest among the player base is expected for this kind of interaction?
These questions are disregarding all the monetary costs required to maintain a base. If they have been answered before, please link me to the answer thread posts.
Apart from that, there are no server rules regarding base creation apart from in game roleplay consequences.
And most interest in POBs usually sparks up when one is found and you bring a fleet to destroy it.

As far as trade is concerned, your base is empty of commodities except for that which you put on there. Therefore, it costs you time and money to sell something sold elsewhere. If you want to male a profit, you'll probably be ignored and players will go.straight to the cheapest source. Offer a reduced price, and you will lose money. Therefore, the only commodities worth selling at all are the mineable ores. Buy ore for a week at one price, sell the next week at a slightly higher price, and so on.
