Bases are everywhere, and they're going to be hunting down right? Right! Who doesn't like killing them?
So the idea is that if any item is dropped within a certain distance, let's say 3-5k, all items that can be beamed into the storage module.
The concept would be that there would be a very indirect force multiplier to the local defenders since any left over ammunition, nanobots and shield batteries would be stored in the base to stop any of the attacking force from scavenging anything useful to continue the attack.
If this idea is possible, perhaps it could lead to purpose built mining bases where if they're in range of a mining field, they can passively collect ore in the background. As in, no rocks need to be shot, but the 'tractor beam/mining module' would generate ore from the nearby field. Or you can set the module to collect any rocks that are shot up to speed up the process.
So yeah, tractor beams and player bases, possible? If so, wanted?
Allowing people to harvest ore when they are not in game is not something I think the devs want. They've made it clear they want to foster team play. Having it so they don't need a tranport also detracts from that line of thinking (yes, I know to get the base they likely used team work, but devs/admins seem to want team work all around, not for a short time).
I like the idea of the base tractoring in all materials in order to prevent aggressors from using them agaisnt it. Though cargo space is at a premium on most bases so it needs and on off switch.
