Nope. No issues at all. Make sure you install all motherboard drivers, don't thrust M$ to pick them for you. FL wont use all 4 cores but it should run ok.
You have driver issue it is not FL or OS issue if you have such problems, from your post is hard to understand are you having issue or you just ask in general.

Nope. And I too have fancy crap like 4 core, 8 threaded 64 bit processors, proprietary Nvidia graphics and an SAS enterprise hard drive. The only issue I've had was related to mucking about with jumpers on the motherboard, but that's a whole other issue
I have a Core2Quad Q9550 (Dinosaur stuff nowdays) overclocked to 3.6GHZ, running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with 8 gigs of ram. Not a single problem with Freelancer.
Works alright on my machine. Only have to set affinity to another core/thread when I get a bit of low fps.
Just try a complete reinstall of Freelancer and install it to the default location. See if the Vanilla works. Then go about installing Disco. Also make sure to delete or move your save games folder.
Using a 3820 Quad Core.
Windows Server 2008r2 64bit. But it works on Windows 7 64bit too.
Only using the server edition cause uni students get the server edition free over 7 for some reason and cause I use Hyper V.
