Hello all,
I've just returned from some time without playing disco and an idea come to my mind with a junker character i've just started.
It could be possible that when one ship is destroyed it drops (aditionally to it's normal drops, cargo nanos...) X amount of scrap metal and or scrap premium (depending of ship type i supose)?
If I'm not wrong tractors are the ID, so maybe even this "ability" could be locked only to Junker/ALG/Hogosha/Gallic junkers ID-tractors?
Like this it could be possible to see junkers/Hogosa etc... lurking the skies trying to steal the floating metal instead of mining it. I think this could put a nice RP background to the Normal brawls that daily happens to Sirius. Aditionally it will make the "static" mine fields become more dynamic so you could see junkers where the action takes place instead of a specific mining flields.
I think the idea is good but i see some problems:
· First of all don't know if that's possible or it represents a lot of work
· Second is how the prices should be set with this (maybe an average price all over sirius so no waiting to see a brawls just next the best paying base)
· Farming oorp, so having a friend all the time killing each other and gahtering the scrap next to a well payed base.
Any ideas to prevent that in case that idea is possible?
Do you think this should erase the actual mining fields or just add it as an extra way to collect scrap/premium scrap?
Like Crackpunch said. More stuff from ships falling off would be better. Like a BS for example have a Mortar as salvage after it dies.
The scrap from ships would be abused i am sorry to say. This server is full of losers that would just sit there shooting each other all day while a buddy fills his 5K with scrap.
From what i know theres an option to change that already Disco has it turned off
what it does is can drop 2 differnt types of goods and can be determined by the mass of the ship bigger ship mean more goods and can also be set for how much of the goods would actually survive so lets says 20% of the ships mas

dude lets kill eachother free mortars! etc.....
I love this idea but it needs some coding tweaks....
+1

they can set it to 2% if they want so its like a little cookie size amount

Also, CrackPunch, I'm agree with you, this shouln't be a way to make money easier. The intention of this idea is not make a more profitable way to get money but a way to let Junkers and other parties involved in collecting scrap and wrecks from the space "more realistic" , so i guess that this system should be balanced somehow to not become another way to "powertrade".
And as for the coding, I'm afraid this would be another "new front" for devs and they are already more than busy.
Anyway i had this idea and i wanted to share with you.
More replies and ideas about how to prevent bad usage of this system are welcomed
another option would be applying this idea to player bases, though I don't know if that's even possible.
When a player base dies, depending on the core level, it'd generate a debris field around it which can be mined with the IDs offering a mining bonus for Premium Scrap, and then it'd disappear once the field is mined out.
This way, a massive construction going boom would actually leave a mark, not simply disappearing with a small flash, as it happens right now, and it won't be as profitable to abuse either, because if people try building then killing bases just for the debris field, they'd be just wasting more time and money than they could make using the field it leaves behind.

Nice idea!

Another idea about how to create an alternative to statc mining fields; Instead of some mining fields around sirius like is now, set a several numbers of wrecks (like codes) but that drops X units of scrap spread all over Sirius (wrecks, asteroids and Planet's orbit)... uh well that's sounds , one more time, a lot of new work :S
