I would throw in that the pirate train also would make sense for an unlawfully aligned freelancer. Pilgrim liners are just really old ships inrp, and frankly, i find purchasing a used old ship thats sturdy as hell and will last a very sound investment over the newer designs.
As a second idea, why not make more ships like the pilgrim? Older designs meant for a more industrial ruggedness, but less manuverable?
Is it OORP to be in a ship that requires a large infrastructure to maintain, and not be affiliated with any organisation that has the capablities of that maintenance? Aside from the gameplay issues, i think the answer there is yes. I do not think Freelancers should be piloting anything that requires more then a dozen or so crew. That aside the gameplay issues have already been mentioned. If you could get a Freelancer 5K transport that could dock anywhere and be neutral to anything, why would anyone still use any of the main trader factions?
Or do we want to create the situation where the main trader factions ban freelancers from docking at ther bases?
Also, to my knowledge there's no rephack between Freelancers and GC.

I agree with this, I wouldnt want to just remove the cargo limit, cos that would mean no-one would play trade factions. But gameplay mechanics are always better for enforcing than arbitrary and oorp rules. Like with the tech nerf vs tech chart. If we could put a bonus for trade factions flying larger ships / penalty for freelancers flying larger ships, thatd be good, dificult to say what we could do though...
Perhaps make freelancers pay money every time their big transport gets killed? Cos they dont have.. company insurance or something? Maybe like 1 mill for every cargo space over 3.6K they have, so theyd pay 14 mill to respawn a 5k, and they wouldnt be able to respawn till theyd paid the money. Thus they get more risk with more reward, and it leads to exciting more tense situations.
Not sure if this could be done though devs?

Bumping a few ships into that range could be done I suppose. The house smalls (Percheron, Mammoth, Behemoth etc) come to mind. I'll run it by the balance guys and see what they think about it.
