It's just people here tend to jump in and start, "That faction can't do this...never do that" when they have never played them. Just an admonishment for people speaking authoritatively to really have played Hogosha. You have--so obviously I wasn't referring to you.
And big hairy deal, I studied Japanese culture since high school and lived there for two years and have always had an interest in the real Yakuza (I have even met some in real life in the real Kabukicho)--that would be before freelancer was a game.
I don't have a monopoly on their play as this is a fantasy game--just didn't want them to get pigeonholed by people who don't play them--as I do.

Fair enough, then.
But still, if you are so dedicated, as well as some other people, why don't you start a Hogosha faction?
I'm sure there are people willing to join, even to help out around certain things.

I've been thinking about doing this, but I dont have the money for it, and I'm very new to the hogosha, i need to spend some time playing as one to figure out how they work before I start to lead others.
Reasonable, yes. My suggestion is to play at least for few months before making a faction.
Just so you fit in the community and get the feeling of how things are done around here.
If anyone wants to do it, I'd be willing to help with some feedback.
Maybe it should wait for the new version and the new VHF, so no reforms are needed then.

I currently role play a Hogosha "company"--the Guardian Black Hole Sun Conglomerate. I work with the two other Hogosha I see when we are on at the same time and have a part time Hogosha who asked to "join" my "company".
If players become interested and want to rp with me, they are welcome (as Ai_Keiko did). If a bunch of people do that then sure we could start a faction. But I'm actually pretty happy running my company. It's unofficial but has an open door for anyone who wants to seriously play Hogosha. I haven't recruited as I am not looking for people who just "start a Hogosha character"--I'd much rather play with someone really into it.
Ideally, every Hogosha player could lead their own "family" and be a company of their own. One might specialize in helping in the Bretonian war...another in smuggling..another in mining--everybody can pick what "their company" is--that's one of the cool things. You don't have to have all Hogosha under a single faction but rather working in concert with one another.
It's a really fascinating group once you break the "CSV hoodlum" mindset.
..and no disrespect intended. I have never dissed any other Hogosha players or groups--past or present. They are the proud, the few...the true Kusari!
Oh yeah--one last...
I appreciate to "fill" faction activity, a lot of the perm players here have created chars in multiple major factions. I am not a fan of that--especially with the Hogosha. It needs dedicated, not part time commitment to really be more than an cardboard faction. I picked it as i wanted something small and not attention getting and was really amazed at how much latitude the game can allow them.
Smugglers. Corsair and Order allies. Liberty trade routes. Quite a few things they can do.

Of course, that's why I meant for faction to be a bit different.
More like a council of family bosses, or similar.
Sure, it can be RP-ed as independent, but faction also brings some advantages, as well as respect.
There would be no hierarchy and common decisions would only be needed for certain things, while families would be independent in other things.
It's just a raw concept, but I think it might work better then "Boss, semi-boss, boss-helper, boss-deputy" concept.
It was also probably done like that in real life.

That would make it really fun. Would be great to have enough small player groups to work as varying departments or with specialties.
