Question regarding docking during PvP(?) and re-engagement.

I don't see how the rule can be interpreted the way you're describing, Agmen.

It clearly states that docking in combat as a trade vessel does not count as a pvp death, because trade vessels are exempt from the "docking counts as a pvp death" rule.
And if pvp death did not occur, why shouldn't I be able to bring another ship to the engagement?

You just answered your own question, in exactly the way I intended with my phrasing.

The CHARACTER in the trading ship didn't die, that's correct. But the player BEHIND the character is now switching ships to engage in combat, whether it's with a different or the same character.

You as the PLAYER are meta-gaming. You can argue that it's a different character - or even the same character and he just happened to have another ship sitting at the same station. Obviously there have been sanctions in the past for switching ships to re-engage - I really don't need to go find them. And I do understand your perspective that the transport 'didn't die' under the rules.

I just think that it's exceedingly nit picking and attempting to find a loophole where one is not intended to exist. We've always played that you can't switch characters, and that's obviously the intent of rule 3.2. It's also pretty obvious that the intent behind rule 3.4 is to allow trade ships to dock, sell their stuff, and continue trading. Not to give you a loophole to switch ships and go forth into combat.

And if my ship docks on a station where my cargo is essentially worthless...or sells for less than what I paid for it? It's pretty much the same as either dying or paying the pirate. In either case, as a trader I'm screwed. It's essentially a no-win scenario...unless the pirate is quickly killed or run off by someone else.

Although...I suppose this has the added benefits of:
1. making it easier to pirate (which isn't necessarily a "bad" thing)
2. creates demand for escorts (which are probably the most heavily underused job in this whole game)
3. gives incentives to join convoys (more ships = greater protection)

All in all, I wouldn't mind the change, but I've played long enough under current rules to be okay with them.

Well, under the rules your shattlebip 'died' when it docked. They're arguing that a trade ship doesn't 'die' when it docks, so they as the player should be free to undock on ANOTHER ship and re-engage.

And of course, completely ignoring the minor detail that all they have to do when they dock their transport is simply log him off since he's safe, log onto another character somewhere on the other side of Sirius, and go do something there.

Guys - how many of us have one, and only one, character? Or maybe two? Maybe 10 or 20 is more like it. Just because the big, bad pirate chased you into docking - simply RP that you're going to go to the station bar for a couple of hours to gather your nerve up because you were getting shot at with that spineless character, and since you as the player are big, bad, and fearless, you're going to switch to someone else.

You just did something in RP that you should do - run from the pirate (and deny him HIS blue message). Are you that much of a dick and butthurt that you have to try to loophole the rules to now show him a lesson by undocking with YOUR fighter? I know these are all just pixels - but that's incredibly immature behavior even for teenagers. (I'm not saying that I don't get mad and irritated at what happens on here at times - but come on. How many times do we say, if you're mad, then go make yourself a toasted cheese sandwich and eat it, and then see if you're still that mad when you're done?)

New rules about reengagements have so many holes... that man who killed you should spam into your PM for 20 minutes, that you should logoff to actually sanction you.
