Barge jumping isn't killing the server because jumping a barge requires at least x amount of people to log on and protect the barge.

Piracy at sell points/buy points/mining locations with organised forces can destroy barges and their escorts.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

Barge convoys, jump convoys, are all super fun for those involved. Over a dozen ships gathering huddled together, it takes some time to execute and its something out of the ordinary to participate in. I remember thinking clearly that if I was a pirate, I'd notice all large groups lingering in the same system for long periods, that's folks getting ready for a jump. Especially if you use a cloak, it would be easy to go scope out a group sitting there waiting. Its easy to disrupt a jump if you get there in time.

As for bases, factions should have access to barges to lighten the load of maintaining them. What I would like to see is more frequent barges. Make it so they are not only jumped by making them easier to obtain for indies, but: Is it possible to make an indy friendly scaled down version, with maybe half the cargo space? That would still entice some to trade with one, even if they don't have jumpdrive capable ships. You'd see more barges out trading the long way, but they would be smaller in comparison cargo wise. That would at least get some barges out more, and still allow for large barges for jumping and base faction supply. I'd like to see more barge battle opportunities (barge raids), but that means more barges, not just cutting them from the jump process. However, not everyone should have a 40k hold ship, so a scaled down version seems like a good middle of the road option.

Quite honestly I would prefer the barge to return to the mobile storage/station. If this happened with removing its jumping ability and slight improvement to the speeds it can travel it would be good.

An alternative would be to disable its jumping ability and retain its current move speed, while making it so it could use 1 factory - say docking modules. After all it fits in with the mobile Station idea and since it would be barely mobile it retains the station while being able to move. After all Who is going to dock 6 fighters or bombers on a barge?
