"Good day Miss Nessel." He was sitting at his considerable desk, clothed in an expensive suit as usual. He had a slight, barely noticeable smirk and looked directly into the camera.
"Miss Miyasu suggested that you would be the perfect canditate for... a little project of mine." He smirked more smug now, not willing to hide that he was enjoying these parts of his job more than the business.
"I am not going rogue or anything. This is still an Interspace job. Although I would prefer that no one gets to know that. And you should so too." He explained and leaned back a little.
"See... I am in the uncomfortable situation of having taken over this job without being able to rely on the network of contacts that my predecessor surely utilized. I am basically working with old statistics only. Of course we have the USI to check on the commercial sector but there is still too much open area that we haven't yet covered." He said but didn't seem to be affected much by this seemingly dramatic situation.
"That means, I need someone to reveal a little of that area. Get to know who plays in these areas. And apparently that someone is you." He said and smirked again.
"I want you to get me information, as detailed as possible. Information about multiple groups that operate outside of the law. Libertonian law for now. I want to know their operational areas, preferred targets, their demands and goals. For many groups we already know the basics but things never stay static. The more information you get the better we can react and the more pay you get. Primary target are the Lane Hackers for now. See what you can find out. You may access some files we have about them. Should this work out you will get full access to our files. There is also some newer Rogue structures. I would like to know what's up with that." He explained, being all business like this time, explaining this as if he would demand a new insurance product from his employees.
"You will receive our full support in the matter. You will get an appartment on Newark though you should be careful when docking here. If you make contacts with people in the underground you might not want to be known as someone who keeps visiting our stations. Or maybe you can turn that around in your favor. I am looking forward to seeing you in action. For your first report I will pay you 15.000.000 credits if there is more in it than I could have looked up on the neural net. We can then negotiate over new prices. We also have a Sutinga ready on Newark. Send me a message should you need it." He explained further and then finally leaned back a little to relax again.
"I am looking forward to your answer, Miss Nessel."
A green-eyed, long-haired woman in casual clothes is seen sitting in a relatively dark, modest room of an apartment, looking at the laptop she is using. She bows her head mildly and begins to speak.
"Konnichiwa, Dean-san."
"Miyasu-san mentioned that you needed someone for some tasks, she wasn't quite willing to delve into details on from who it was..."She was clearly very surprised to have someone that high-ranking to speak to her out of the blue, let alone an executive manager of a megacorporation. She lean back mildly and continues:
"Playing among those criminals is something I never thought I'd be willing to do, but you've certainly managed to convince me. Fifteen.. million and an apartment to boot! I will certainly try to find some information for you, the Rogues shouldn't need much convincing to tell something sensitive, I imagine. The enigmatic Lane Hackers are another thing entirely, but I will try to do my best to find out anything relevant out of them. I wonder what would convince them..."She blurts out quietly in a questioning tone, pondering.
"I already have my own ship, but thank you for your generosity. I will also heed your warning about Interspace stations, better to be safe than sorry. If you have anything I could start off from specifically, please tell. I suppose I am to report my findings directly to you on this channel as well, hai?"She is barely able to hide the enthusiasm in her voice, knowing she'd work for such a high ranking person in Interspace, as well as the money that would follow.
He was smiling a little smugly already when the transmission began. "Miss Izumi, I am very happy to hear that you accept this job. I honestly have to say that I didn't expect someone... like you."
"I figured I would get someone... Let's say more rough. Someone like these Mercenaries we keep seeing on Newark." He said and had the decency to sound apologetic.
"All the better, I guess. I have a feeling that this will work out great." He said and then moved his chair back a little to show his display window that he liked so much.
"But I guess we should first see how well you actually perform." The window behind him changed to a map of Liberty.
"I guess for starters we will begin in Liberty. I won't restrict you do that but if I would send you everywhere at once we both won't have anything from that.."
He explained and then stood up to look a the map himself..
"For example, the Rheinland, Liberty route is open again. At least one of them. The Gate is back in action and the trade should flow soon again once these silly embargoes are out of the way. The problem is that multiple transports there have been disrupted. It sounds like something more organized, so I would like to know if that is the case. Then we have the Hackers of course. They seem to be everywhere and nowhere again. I know I told you that they are a priority target but I don't exactly expect you to come up with anything new. Should you manage I am more than grateful though." He said then and turned around to smile professionally at the camera again.
"I will keep the ship ready should anything happen to yours though. And I have been informed about your appartment being ready as well. You should soon receive the codes to access the appartment and some other of the amenities I promised you. Should you need anything else, people, equipment, information. I am going to organize it. Keep it on an acceptable level."
He explained while the map behind him vanished to become the orbit of Manhattan again.
"I wouldn't mind receiving your first report in person, Miss Nessel. Should that not be possible, this channel is perfectly fine."
