Remember in SP, the 4th mission where Juni and Trent escape to the badlands.

The badlands hide the buffalo base, if i am correct, since the dark matter kills the scanners, yet the navy force did find them eventually.

SO...well..sadly, in my eyes, finding a hidden base is not so OORP...just it would be rather foolish to bring a lone BS to it, if you have data on only the base location, yet not the forces guarding it.
That was a Navy Ressearch Station, they already knew where it was, so it wasn't difficult. They didn't have to find it, just fly to it.

Indeed. It was amusing when, after running from two lawfuls in Cali, they showed up on the front porch of Alcatraz.

"Man the turrets!" I said.

Its the mechanics of the game... the npc'a and local defences are nowhere near strong enough or far enough away from those bases to convince pilots of that.

" I ain't goin in there! No way,no how.The Captain went in there.........we aint heard from his transponder in 6 weeks of lookin for his wreck."

Thats how it should be thought of for any secret base or area.....scare the living daylights out of them.....ya know?...maybe some bodies ( or parts there of) floating in space as debris might help to get the message across.
and thats my 2 credits worth.

Zone-21 isn't a secret system. Everyone knows the jump gate to it exists and knows where it is. Its in the middle of a giant minefield in the single most populated system in Sirius.. There are even news reports about an explosion in Zone-21 near the beginning of the SP Campaign.

Ainu, Kyoto, Cali, etc. Those are hidden stations. Even Ouray. However often we see 4-5 DW Gunships sitting literially 1,500m from it and shooting every player that undocks.. Its pathetic. And at least people don't/can't camp Zone-21.. They can camp unlawful stations with a BS. Which is worse..

True, there are some people that don't follow the "hidden areas" idea, however, all my characters have only mapped the areas they should be visiting, and, even tho I know practically all of the FL universe, I will never go out of my way to find something the character shouldn't know about.
EG: recently, my BMM trader was in Omega-7 when the server crashed, with a 1/4-full hold. Now, rather than run around and loot all the nearby wrecks, probably enough stuff to make ~500k credits or more, I continued my run with a 1/4 full hold.

Thing is, we need to self-regulate to keep within the lore, and some people don't do that...some even have different interpretations, so it's a tricky subject to fully resolve.

I like the idea of reducing sensor efficiency around a hidden base.

& I don't know if this is possible or not because of hardcoding, but what about making the hidden stations invisible on the navmaps of everyone not allied w/ the bases' faction?

thats a good idea, but i dont think that would be possible. Thought people might still got there... but i would say make them with guard turrets, not only would it deter people from going there if your hostile but also help stop base camping.... getting 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak.

Oh, I agree people would still find the bases, but I was just thinking that if a hidden base is blacked out on the navmap, then it would be a decent RP reminder to the player to stick to what the character knows as opposed to what the player knows.

Well i don't exactly know, someone who knows their stuff would have to answer it.

I wouldn't complain about what you said though
