Yep just what I was saying..... if the server has to keep track of every asteroid, then its gonna pound both the server and/or your internet connection when you're in an asteroid field. That's when the lag comes in.

Nah. I believe EVERY asteriod has an EXACT place in space that it is. Every asteroid field is saved to your hard drive so the server doesn't have to deal with it. :)

would you rather then have the server place the asteroids as you go and have to track them and have everything lag out all the time....

I know i wouldent so personaly i dont mind if theres a few extra gig's as you put it if it speeds the game up :P

Asteroid field is handled like a zone in Freelancer, the game knows which asteroids to put there, what should be the distance, rotation, alignment etc. No one ever placed those asteroids statis, it's complete nonsence. Myriads of objects... no game could handle that.
