To Captain Jean-Paul Favager d'Astier,

I am Lt. De Bordeleaux of the R.N.S. L'Esperance - a Perilous-Class corvette currently stationed in the Leeds System. For the past weeks, my crew and I have been conducting in-system patrols against Bretonnian incursion, but also convoy duty as our chartered allies in the Ile-de-France Shipping Company shuttle supplies, casualties and personnel between Leeds and the Core Territories. It has been an assignment not without its challenges.

I have been informed by High Command that you are currently overseeing a highly classified operation in the Magellan System. I haven't been fully briefed on the matter yet as I suspect they will leave that in your capable hands, but I have been told that one of the KSF's to its success lies in diplomacy. As it happens, ambassadorship and mediation are my strong suites, and so I would like to volunteer my services in return for an opportunity to work in the Magellan System. The L'Esperance is also especially equipped to deal with lighter craft, and so can provide ample fire support in the event of a Bretonnian or Libertonian incursion. Relevant specialists among my crew also include translators and stenographers. I myself am fluent in Rheinlander, and am more than familiar with the particulars of Kusari customs.

My crew, my vessel and I stand ready for tasking, and upon your confirmed approval we can relocate to the Battleship Bethany within 12 hours, making allowances for shipyard maintenance and expected additions to crew. All the paperwork has been handled, Capitaine. I need only the word.

Bonsoir,

It is fortunate that you were not directly attached to the fleet command above me. We are always in need of more ships and weaponry, and especially the expertise that comes with it.

I presume you're new to your command given your rank and rear-guard posting. Good work in Leeds I suppose; I pulled up your ship's file and gave it a brief look. Your ship appears to have the ship handling part of the job down, but Magellan is a much different beast. I'm gladdened to hear about your negotiation abilities and the presence of those critical support personnel aboard your ship but do not forget that our primary mission is to close with the enemy and destroy them through fire and maneuver.

Your eagerness for front-line posting is commendable and I am humbled that someone of your noble status looks so highly on a commoner's battle record. That aside, I shall put my signature on the paperwork and put it through to the CIC of the Groupe de Navale Betheny and have you transferred into my command. You have potential, but you're still a buck lieutenant. Once you have made it to Magellan I will see to it that whatever time I have between sorties will be spent orienting you to make sure that your potential is not wasted.

But do not forget, potential is nothing without the grit and dedication to act on it. The lives of your sailors depend on your ability to know your job and carry it out without hesitation, one hundred percent of the time. We train our sailors to obey their officers without a second thought. It is our burden to be deserving of that.

I look forward to having you in Magellan, Marquess et Margrave LT de Bordeleaux. Have your ship and crew ready for inspection upon arrival.

(Lt. De. Bordeleaux's face appears on a live video feed - an attractive, charming young Gallic women with soft features and a notably frailer build compared to typical naval officers. She wears the same standard issue blue navy uniform (with the appropriate markings and a little patch of her heraldry as a small exception) as all the others despite her obviously noble status, and maintains a certain Stoic calm upon her face. Her skin is fair with light ash blonde hair; her eyes are a striking electric blue.)

We've received your transmission, Capitaine. Preparations for our final departure for the Magellan System are underway, and the final maintenance crews from the Royal Navy platform in high orbit will be disembarking from the L'Esperance within the hour. We have a final compliance test to make on a newly acquired impulse drive fitted to the Corvette, but if all goes well, we shall leave high orbit and make for the Bethany at best possible speed.

Navigator is already monitoring the quantum wave form of the nearby Magellan Jumphole. Expected time of departure is 1100 hours Standard Gallic Time.
