ID:NIKLAS MAYER LOCATION:Duisburg SUBJECT:Altona Station: Investigation Guten Tag
As you are aware, Altona Station was heavily attacked recently by the Unioners. I ask that an investigation is done to find out what was used to cause the damage as well as to see if there is any evidence of who came into contact with it.
Altona Station will remain closed until the investigation is done. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything to help with the investigation.
Once your investigation is done primarily of what happened, so we can bring those to justice, I will then contact Daumann Heavy Construction to evaluate the extent of damage, what will be required to rebuild and roughly how long it will take.
PRIORITY:High ENCRYPTION:High IDENTIFICATION:Polizeidirektorin Laura Carsten SOURCE:RFP Direktorium Büros, Brandenburg Base SUBJECT:Re: Altona Station: Investigation
Guten Tag, Sehr geehrter CEO Mayer, my name is Laura Carsten and I am polizeidirektorin of the Rheinland Federal Polizei. I apologize for the delay, but investigation of attack of such a massive scale like in this case takes some time.
Preliminary conclusions show that Unioners used quite a simple, yet hard to face strategy which mostly takes advantage from current lack of law enforcement forces in Hamburg system due to need to deploy them elsewhere, be it Sigmas frontlines, Omega-7 where, as you may know, security situation worsened or for increased patrols near Dresden jump gate in New Berlin due to advance of Red Hessians on the other side of the gate.
Data gathered from space surveillance systems show that large group of Unioner ships was able to enter Hamburg system, very likely through jumphole from Bering. Unfortunately, they used very well cover provided by Nordheide asteroid field, literally pretending to be a group of asteroids, what allowed them to reach the edge of the field unnoticed. After that, they approached the area at planet Hamburg and Altona Station at the highest possible speed, giving patrols and quick response defence forces very little time for reaction. On top of that, attackers used deceiving manoeuvre as their course suggested they plan to execute another planetary attack or raid, thus defence reacted mostly to this anticipated scenario.
However, at the last moment attackers changed their course towards Altona and thus were able to heavily outnumber local defense temporarily. As soon as they reached the proximity of the station, several ships coordinately launched a high number of missiles, what turned out to be another cover manoeuvre to overload missile defense systems and hide two carriers of nuclear electromagnetic pulse warheads. Unfortunately, while their yields were high, radiological signatures were low and thus respective warning systems were not able to detect them before it was too late and they reached the critical distance where they detonated too close to the station.
Following explosions caused massive electromagnetic discharge and a radiation wave. This damaged the Altona and also caused heavy collision of the last leaving passenger transportation ship with part of the station because the pilot lost control over the vessel due to the failure of vital electronic systems. As you know, this resulted in the death of 47 people aboard the ship and several more heavily injured. After that, part of Unioner ships retreated back towards the Nordheide asteroid field, covered by others which then fought arriving reinforcements.
Overall evaluation is that the situation was very hard to prevent from happening because attackers were well prepared and in high numbers, executed their plan in an excellent way and unfortunately also had quite a big portion of luck. The only chance was to stop attacking ships far enough from the area, but that would be possible only if they would be detected sooner and mainly if there would be a higher number of law enforcement patrols. What is not possible these days unfortunately because of the need to deploy them elsewhere as I mentioned at the beginning. If you want to see increased security of the area and your station, I cannot do anything else than to recommend to reinforce your corporation security forces or hire someone for this job. Law enforcement forces are trying their best, but their limited number has to be spread across way too big area and way too many hotspots currently.
I will conclude my message with a note that we are still looking into the matter because there are still few questions unanswered. Among others, we are still trying to reveal if there were any Unioners sympathizers hidden between RS employees which would be directly involved in the terrorist attack, for example by providing important information about security situation and patrols in the area around Altona.
Also, it seems way too much coincidence that the attack took place in a moment when the station was almost empty due to forced interruption of production caused by a strike, followed by a malfunction of some auxiliary life support systems, what lead to preventive evacuation. It seems quite likely that both events were caused on purpose to actually evacuate common workers from the station before the attack. After all, Unioners may be a bunch of criminals and terrorists, but their propaganda is quite well made and thought-out, so it would make sense they would not want to repeat another huge loss of public sympathy after killing many innocent civilians as it happened after the gas attack on Alster Shipyard. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find direct evidence about the connection between specific people who decided about the strike and the Unioners. Once again in this whole affair, a very good cover is used.
That is all the information I can tell you at this moment.
