Summary

Planetform's greatest success, Anaheim was terraformed in a record 85 years. Anaheim stands as proof that, regardless of what the company's detractors claim, Planetform delivers on its promises as advertised. Planetform is currently in the process of transferring administration to the Libertonian government. Planetform will retain a base on the planet for the foreseeable future to study the long-term effectiveness of the terraforming process and to make adjustments as needed to maintain the planet's environment.

History

Anaheim (original designation: California Minor) was first surveyed during Liberty's initial colonisation push into the California system. Anaheim was initially declared unsuitable for terraforming and was passed over for settlement in favour of the much more hospitable Los Angeles. For centuries, due to the planet's frigid temperatures and orbit well outside the system's circumstellar habitable zone, Anaheim remained solely of scientific interest due to the planet's unusually vigorous geology.

This all changed in 741 when Planetform engineers devised a revolutionary method of tapping into Anaheim's vast geothermal reserves, releasing vast amounts of greenhouse gasses and introducing alien organisms into the planet's atmosphere to bring the planets climate into an acceptable temperature range. The Republic of Liberty soon greenlighted the project, seeing the planet's newfound potential. Terraforming was completed on schedule in 826, having taken a mere 85 years from beginning to completion.

Project Stages

Stage 1 - Initial work on Anaheim began with the construction of Planetform's revolutionary geothermal pyramids at sites across the planet. To supplement the introduction of greenhouse gasses, alien organisms were introduced into the atmosphere to begin transforming the atmosphere into a breathable state. As the planet warmed and oceans began to form, the clouds were seeded with silver to stimulate precipitation and establish a functioning hydrologic cycle.

Stage 2 - As the planet entered a marginally habitable state, scientists from Planetform's Planetary Biology team began introducing simple life as the first steps in setting up an engineered biosphere. As the planet's climate continued to improve, they introduced progressively more complex life with the goal of achieving a self-sustaining and healthy biosphere.

Stage 3 - As a result of the efforts in the previous two stages, Anaheim was fast approaching the desired state, but the delicate work of stabilising the newly established climate and biosphere still remained. Stage three saw the reduction in the large-scale stage 1 and 2 projects and an increased focus on achieving a proper balance between the planet's climate and biology to produce a perpetually self-regulating global system.

Completion - In 826, Planetform engineers declared the project to be complete. The remaining geothermal pyramids were shut down, cloud-seeding operations were halted, and the large-scale introduction of new life reduced. Planetform will continue to maintain an operation on the planet to monitor the planet's climate and make adjustments as needed.
