Good afternoon,

It's good to see that the ERC is up and running, just in time for my report. As instructed, I have been on Harris for the last three days, checking on the state of our assets here, and what the status of the terraforming project is after the Gallic occupation. Before I get into that, though, I need to report an incident that occurred on the way here.

As I was approaching the Tau-31 gate in Leeds, I encountered two Gaian vessels (N|-Scurfy.Twiglet & N|-Weed.Van) and a Crayterian capital ship (=CR=FV-Agamemnon|16). The Gaian attempted to accost me, but I managed to make it through the gate before anything else could occur. Unfortunately, it didn't help, as they had friends on the other side of the gate (N|-False.Deathcap). Unfortunately, the Agamemnon left me high and dry, and since I was clearly outmatched, I decided to indulge their desire for conversation. Shortly after I stopped, an additional Gaian ship (GG-W-Saraswati.) arrived on the scene. Fortunately, this bunch of idiots were True Believers™, and couldn't resist the opportunity to argue their flawed, empty-headed philosophy with me.

The distraction worked in my favour, since a Crayterian cruiser (=CR=FV-Eris|283) arrived on the scenes to back me up, just as things were about to turn ugly. I can only assume the Agamemnon sent them to assist, since they were apparently unable to do so themselves. The prospect of tangling with a Crayter Military cruiser went a long way to calming the situation down, and the Gaians allowed us to pass without incident. The Eris helpfully escorted me all the way to Harris and saw that I landed safely. I informed him of the purpose of my visit and told him to tell his government to expect a report from us in the near future.

Now, on to more important matters. Our equipment is largely intact, despite the Gallic invasion and occupation. Not to mention EFL's amateurs fumbling around with technology they don't understand. Surprisingly, they figured out how to operate our equipment without doing a great deal of damage in the process and were making impressive progress for someone making it up as they went along. I had to go directly to the terraforming equipment and atmospheric sensors to extract the raw data to figure that out, though. The computers here are going to need a complete wipe and restored to factory settings before we can move forward. The Gauls installed their own software, and I can't make heads or tails of it. Working on terraforming equipment is easy. Reading French... that's hard.

During the days leading up to, and in the immediate aftermath of the Gallic invasion, work here had halted entirely. EFL initially made little progress getting the project back on track, and some of the atmosphere was lost due to outgassing, putting the project even further behind schedule. They eventually managed to (mostly) successfully reverse engineer our process and got the project moving forward again. Due to improper calibration and incorrect settings on the hardware, their progress was slower than ours would've been in the same situation. The net effect of all this is that Harris is currently in the same state now as it was before the outbreak of the war. A quick back-of-the-envelope calculation suggests that, if we begin soon, we can complete the project in approximately 7 to 10 years.

I'll remain here for the time being and see what else I can do with the equipment here. Maybe see if I can get these computers to talk to me. I'm also available to deal with the local Crayterian authorities if you need me to.

Good Evening,

Today, while working a connecting run on our assigned route (Thorium MOX for a buyer on Nuremburg in exchange for High-Temperature Alloy needed on Cold Bay), we were accosted and fired upon by a Hessian pirate IDing as Bastard. As we were passing Dortmund and Essen Stations on our way through New Berlin, the Hessian came out of the trade lane from the Hamburg gate, disabled the trade lanes, and attempted to extort ten million credits from us. As we were still in close proximity to Dortmund and Essen stations, I ordered my helmsman to dock with the nearest station, in this case Dortmund.

We had to engage in a short firefight before we could get far enough into the stations defensive sphere to force the pirate to retreat. Fortunately, the defensive and offensive upgrades we recently received kept us in one piece. We were struck on our hull by at least two enemy torpedoes, but our armour held well enough for nanobots to repair the worst of the damage. Our gunners are less than impressed with the damage output of the Zapper turrets we received at our last refit, but their outstanding accuracy helps make up for it.

We are currently in the process of receiving basic repairs with the assistance of the crew here on Dortmund, who have also graciously assisted us in stabilising our cargo while we're here. As soon as repairs are complete, we well resume our assigned route. You will find attached to this report a communication log from the time of this incident. We are also, as per company policy, filing a claim with Interspace for $311,586 to reimburse us for repairs due to combat damage as well as replacing the nanobots and shield batteries we expended reaching safety.

Good afternoon,

We've recently managed to finish our vessel's refit, therefore I'm proud to announce that Survey Vessel Pella is finally in service. We're currently orbiting Planet Sprague, launching our survey teams, since about 60% of the surface wasn't really explored, and our maps show that approximately 60% of the planet isn't really explored, just a high orbit scan is made.

Our preliminary scans show multiple settlements in more than one target region, so I'll try to negotiate for any information they may have gathered.
On a final note, I've instructed our survey teams to catalouge the local flora and fauna as well, for understanding the full effect of the terraforming on the planet's ecology, and whether or not should we introduce new species to the biome, to compensate for these changes.

Good afternoon,

Earlier today, while visiting our newly commissioned facilities at Birmingham in Manchester, I encountered two Freelancers (Skyblaster and Sunblaster) firing on a Junker trade ship (Elias.Visaire) near the station. I obviously couldn't allow such behavior near a company facility to go unchallenged, so I identified myself and warned the pirates that I would open fire if they persisted. They backed off and allowed the Junker ship to moor at Birmingham. They didn't leave the area, however, so I remained on station to keep an eye on them. It was a good thing I did, too. A Gateway convoy came out of the trade lane, and sure enough, the pirates attempted to accost them. I warned them once more to leave the area. Before they could answer, one of the pirate ships spontaneously exploded, likely due to poor maintenance. The other, apparently not liking the odds anymore, abandoned any attempts at further piracy and left the area.

Good Day,

Looks like my previous record was never sent, so here is our assessment on Sprague:

The planet's biology is in large parts compatible with human life, although the arid nature of the planet makes farming difficult. The planet has rather large amounts of cobalt and titanium, several shanty towns are mining already.

Population-wise, Sprague's estimated population is completely outdated, based on our own surveys and estimates, it's somewhere between 15 and 18 million people, mostly refugees. Most settlements are compromised of repurposed materials, ranging from tents and shipping containers, to broken-down ships.

If Planetform should decide to touch the planet, lowering the average temperature would have minimal effect on the biosphere, and the nearby Graham Ice Cloud can provide sufficient amounts of water.

On a personal advice, We should put enviromental restrictions, in order to not turn the planet into another Leeds.

Good Day,

Our expedition to Gallia is proceeding smoothly, although the lack of interest our vessel recieved is somewhat strange. Most of the teams currently analysing Gallia's flora and fauna, and our initial assessment on the worlds are ready. Thanks to these projects, company can grow into multiple times larger, maybe even to the size of Liberty Megacorps, if we'll convince the frogs to terraform most of these worlds.

They are currently engaged in terraforming of 2 worlds, one of them is botched up, the latter is done with ineffective, and primitive methods. A third settled world could be easily terraformed, given it's cold climate, this would be probably desired.

For regional HQ, I suggest to acquire the former Solar Engineering Headquarters on Compiegne Space Colony, as the station orbits one of the potential canditates. Without further ado, here are every rock worth a damn to us.

Aubigny, Ile-de-France

Population: ~50,000,000

Aubigny is a world rich in Oil, and quite poor in climate. Temperature on the equator rarely exceeding 0 Celsius, and in the polare regions, Negative 100 celsius isn't a rare sight.

Recommended approach: Deployment of terraforming stations planetside, and adjusting ecology accordingly. Transport excess ice to other projects in the system, for reducing our costs on those projects, and to prevent floods.

Planet Chateau-Tierry, Ile-de-France
Priority: █ █ █
Population: None

A desert world, orignally considered as a potential terraforming location, but later abandoned, when nearby systems gave better opportunities to settle. Easily approachable, as it has trade-lane connections, and a station in orbit.

Recommended approach: Deployment of terraforming stations planetside, introduce ecology from imported species. For cost reduction, the excess ice from the Aubigny project is advised to be used here

Planet Dourdan, Ile-de-France
Priority: █
Population: None

Another world considered to be terraformed, although an unfavourable one at that. Dourdan lies in the center of a large asteroid cloud, and it has no stations, or trade lanes in it's vicinity. The planet wasn't even properly surveyed, we've observed no signs of activity in it's vicinity, either.

Recommended approach: Full survey of the planet, looking for resources, and to decide the planet's future purpose. Installment of Asteroid defense grid, then terraforming stations. Usage of excess ice from Aubigny is recommended for cost reduction.

Planet Vienne, Dauphine

Population: None

An ancient world with primitive biome. The Minarchy recently posted a contract to terraform the planet. Several startup terraforming companies are interested, along with Kishiro, and Cryer, for some reason. Preliminary scans are available, and in high quality. Furthermore, the world is a relatively easy project, compared to most of the canditates on the list.

Recommended approach: Deployment of terraforming stations planetside, and adjusting ecology accordingly. Introduction of new species is necessary.

Planet Ales, Languedoc

Population: None

The other possible location to terraform within the Minarchy. Ales' atmosphere sports no water or oxygen, but an ice field can be found in the system. The planet sports a rather large moon, which provides sufficient protection from asteroids.

Recommended approach: Installment of terraforming stations planetside. Using the ice field for a source of water and oxygen to the atmosphere is the best possible approach. Implementing a new biome is necessary.

Planet Maligny, Burgundy

Population: None

Maligny is the most profitable project we can have in Burgundy. The planet has substantial resources, but due to the high temperature, the gauls never tried to extract it. Earlier records show signs of life on the planet, but the most recent ones do not report anything like it.

Recommended approach: Installment of terraforming stations planetside. Using the ice field for a source of water and oxygen to the atmosphere is the best possible approach. Implementing a new biome is necessary.

A more easily terraformable world, Beaune is a cold, arid planet, with a single moon. Burgundy's ice field located closer to this planet than Maligny, and liquid water is already present.

Recommended approach: Installment of terraforming stations planetside. Using the ice field for a source of water and oxygen to the atmosphere is the best possible approach. Adjusting biome accordingly.

A moon around the gas giant Tonnerre. Rather small sized, with a thin atmosphere. Scans indicate large mineral deposits in relatively easily extractable locations.

Recommended approach: Installment of terraforming stations planetside. Using the ice field for a source of water and oxygen to the atmosphere is the best possible approach. Introducing new biome.

Population: <10,000,000

Metz is a world being terraformed right now by primitive methods, like burning oil to release greenhouse gases, and introducing new species. While their creativity is admirable, the lack of experience and the trial and error way of doing it may ultimately end up in a runaway greenhouse effect.

Recommended approach: Installment of terraforming stations planetside. Adjusting biome accordingly.

Planet Amiens, Picardy

Population: 750,000,000

Amiens is the best example of a botched terraforming. Runaway greenhouse gases already caused the destruction of several megacities, and with the temperatures rising, further settlements are in danger. The damage is reversible, but needs immediate attention.

Recommended approach: Immediate release of terraforming gases, in order to stabilize the climate. Fine tuning and adjusting the biome comes after that. Due to the nature of industry planetside, continous monitoring and adjusting required.

After weighing our options, management has narrowed our options to Vienne, Metz, and Amiens. Completing two projects that they're currently interested in, as well as fixing their mistakes on Amiens, should buy us enough good will to expand into further projects in the future.

Senior Engineer Flynn will be dispatched to Gallia to do an in-depth assessment on each of those worlds. Once we've received her reports, we'll move ahead with contacting the Gallic government.

Good morning,

At management's request, I took a shuttle and a survey team to Gallia to assess the most likely candidates for terraforming. We've done initial surveys of Vienne, Amiens, and Metz. Our findings will be attached to this report.

On a personal note, it feels strange being here after so many years of war. Still, the war is over, and we need to embrace the future or get left behind. Interspace has already moved in, taking over management of Versailles Station, and has made impressive inroads into the Gallic insurance and information markets. This is fortunate, since it's allowed myself and my team to use our corporate account with IC to take care of our expenses while we're here. It also indicates that Gallia is definitely open for business.

Before I get on with my reports, I'd first like to provide an overall impression based on my own surveys and the initial scouting done by Captain Blackburn and her crew. Though we initially had concerns that the end of the war would bring a new competitor for terraforming services into the market, I think we can lay those fears to rest. Though they did a minimally adequate job figuring out how to restart our operations on Harris, it's become clear that they do not possess similar technology or knowledge of their own. In short, they're centuries behind us at best. Gallic terraforming methods have already produced one botched world and they are repeating their failed methods on a second as we speak. Both of these worlds are included in my reports.

Flynn, A. - Survey Report: Vienne

Planet Vienne
Dauphine, Minarchy of Provence

This planet is a prime candidate for terraforming operations. Vienne's temperature range is currently on the lower end of habitability, roughly in line with New Berlin or Hamburg, though the extreme low tends about 20-30 degrees colder on Vienne than either Rheinland world. Vienne does possess a primitive ecology not entirely unlike the arctic regions of Saarbrucken. Unlike Saarbrucken, however, Vienne's atmospheric oxygen content is far too low to support human life.

Due to Vienne's unsuitable climate and atmosphere, we will need to begin at Stage 1. To bring the planet to a state similar to Anaheim, I estimate a time frame of 40-50 years. Though Vienne is in a better state now than Anaheim was as recently as 20 years ago, the planet lacks Anaheim's unusually vigorous geothermal reserves. We'll need to make up the difference with increased imports of terraforming gasses. To increase local involvement in the project, I recommend assessing native Gallic species for viability in engineering the planet's new biosphere. I would also suggest considering licensing the production of terraforming gasses to local producers, though that of course carries the risk of industrial espionage.

Flynn, A. - Survey Report: Amiens

Picardy, Republic of Gallia

This planet is, to put it mildly, a complete disaster. Amiens is a textbook example of everything that can go wrong in a terraforming operation, the likes of which I've never seen outside of simulations. Instead of a carefully managed introduction of terraforming gasses, they raised the planet's temperature through the unchecked introduction of industrial pollutants. Clearly whatever idiot made that decision was not well versed in pre-exodus history, or else they wouldn't have deliberately tried to recreate Earth's early 21st century climate disaster. Had they studied their history books a little better, what followed would not have come as a surprise.

They were unable to achieve a proper atmospheric balance at the desired temperature range and unchecked warming continues to the present day. Due to rising sea levels, three cities were completely destroyed when their sea walls failed. Additional cities and settlements are expected to flood in the future as the sea level continues to rise. People have relocated inland, and they've taken measures to prevent the loss of any more major cities, but if the disaster remains unchecked, Amiens will be uninhabitable within 150 years. It is not too late to reverse the damage, but the sooner we can begin, the better.

Due to Gallia's botched efforts, it'll be hard to slot this one neatly into our normal three-stage structure. Given that we're stabilising an already altered climate rather than altering it ourselves from scratch, I'd provisionally classify this one at Stage 2. Unfortunately, I must disagree with Captain Blackburn's recommendation on our course of action. Rather than introducing additional gasses into the atmosphere, I would recommend applying the same experimental technology currently in use on our Forres project. Capturing carbon from the atmosphere will help lower the planet's temperature back into an acceptable range, and the oxygen produced as a byproduct can be exported to Viennes. As the temperature drops, the planets ice caps will begin to reform, lowering, or at least stabilising, the sea level and increasing the planet's albedo, lowering the temperature further still.

Flynn, A. - Survey Report: Metz

Lorraine, Grand Duchy of Burgundy

Metz is currently in a habitable state, not unlike New Berlin or Hamburg, and is in fact currently inhabited. As with their earlier project on Amiens, however, they are hoping to make the planet warmer to increase the usable surface area and improve local agriculture. They clearly learned nothing from their earlier attempt Amiens, however, as they are currently in the process of importing large quantities of gasoline and setting it on fire to release carbon into the atmosphere. We will need to intervene and put a stop to this stupidity very soon if we're to avoid another botched terraforming effort.

For this world, I concur with Captain Blackburn's recommendation. As the planet is already habitable and hosts a partial biosphere, we can proceed directly to Stage 2. In place of burning gasoline, I recommend the construction of geothermal towers and the introduction of terraforming gasses, as per standard company procedures. Their use of orbital mirrors to introduce more sunlight is primitive but workable, and I see no reason not to continue using them, if only to avoid wasting invested resources and not make the locals feel like total idiots. Gallic methods of deacidifying the soil through capturing and scrubbing rainwater is inefficient, but may be workable if we supplement it with more advanced methods.
