Orex Industries is an industrial Zoner company that specializes in extracting the rare and valuable metal - Iridium from Omicron Delta
- - About us - -
Orex Industries is a corporation founded by a group of Zoners based out of Freeport 11 in Omicron Delta. Originally doing solo or small-scale Iridium mining operations within the ever-perilous Tokelau Ice Cloud in the 820s, these miners realized they could protect their investments, and thus their profits, better if they operated in a group.
The Zoners, historically, are a diverse and enigmatic group, spanning across the Sirius sector, preferably as far away from House influence as possible. This diversity of backgrounds makes it difficult at times for them to organize, both from an economic and military standpoint.
Luis Zavala, a prominent voice within Omicron Delta’s Zoner community in recent years, saw an opportunity within the remote system. Zavala is charismatic, drawing others to him, and had made his fortune years back through the sale of a now defunct Silver processing facility in the Omegas. Rather than retire quietly, Zavala saw an opportunity to corner the Iridium market in Omicron Delta and gathered a group of like-minded individuals to form the corporation seen today.
You will usually see Orex vessels operating in Omicron Delta, around Freeport 11 and its main facility, Tokelau Smelter. Logistics vessels can be seen going as far as Dublin in Bretonia, or Orleanais in Gallia. The unique diplomatic stance of the Zoners allows Orex the luxury of a wide consumer base. With other Zoner groups unable to organize to the level of Zavala and his team, Orex Industries has become the leading Iridium supplier across all of Sirius in only a few years.
- - Why Iridium? - -
In recent years, the major players within the Sirius sector have been pushing the envelope in terms of technology, always looking to outdo each other, whether it be through ships, weapons, or ordinances. One of the key components of this arms race is Iridium. Known for its density, hardness, and corrosion resistance, Iridium is often integral in the production of a variety of ship and weapon components.
Ablative Armor Plating, a sought-after component of modern spacecraft, utilizes Iridium for its brittleness. The brittle nature of Iridium ensures that ship hulls don’t experience catastrophic points of failure from the pinpoint impacts of certain weaponry, like lasers or railgun fire.
Additionally, Iridium’s corrosion resistance makes it a prime choice in the production of high-temperature alloys, for use when constructing engine components and fusion reactors. This versatility of use has increased the demand for Iridium drastically as Sirius’ various minds continue to push the envelope of technology.
Omicron Delta contains the most abundant source of Iridium Ore found in Sirius: The Tokelau Ice Cloud. Its proximity to Freeport 11 draws many Zoners to it as a potential source of wealth.
- - Logistics - -
Orex Industries makes its money primarily in two different ways. Iridium procurement and refining being the first, and the distribution of said material being second. Orex leverages the power of near diplomatic immunity to provide Iridium to a wide swathe of the Sirius Sector. Developments in Liberty have prevented them from providing wholesale distribution to the capitalistic house, and previous clashes with The Lovelace Circle, a Lane Hacker organization, in Earhart, have closed off the unlawful markets there. However, other Zoners within Liberty will occasionally seek out Orex for Iridium deliveries, often requesting delivery into the Independent Worlds to avoid having to go through Liberty proper.
The other Houses don’t have this problem. Orex frigates will undergo lengthy and arduous voyages from the deep Omicrons all the way, to Kusari, Bretonia, Rheinland, or Gallia, providing deliveries to groups like Kishiro Technologies, Daumann Heavy Construction, or Bretonia Mining and Metals. Those same ships will make return journeys with Gold, Diamonds, Silver, or Bioneural Processors, which fetch attractive profits in Omicron Delta, but are also instrumental in the development of Orex’s other divisions.
Orex also does business with the seamier side of Sirius. Groups like the Mollys, Hessians, and Technocracy pay well for Iridium. Orex pilots are discreet when making deliveries to these groups, understanding that being caught by lawful patrols in the wrong system can lead to grave consequences for the company at large. Zavala walks a thin line in terms of diplomacy, and confidentiality is paramount when booking contracts with Orex Industries.

- - New Horizons - -
As Orex grew, other divisions were added. Former mercenaries and House military pilots became in high demand as escorts. Iridium is a delicate material, and sudden impacts can cause it to shatter, ruining cargo deliveries if a pilot were to make a mistake, or if a pirate were to land a lucky torpedo on a passing vessel. Orex escorts are highly compensated and well-equipped to handle any pirate or alien encounter they should run across while escorting their highly valuable cargo across Sirius.
Orex Armaments, a recent addition to the company, is an investment made by Zavala into the newly discovered Earhart and Uncharted systems. He pitched the idea to investors both on Nauru and Freeport 11. Soon after, millions of credits flowed into the production of Section 61: a facility deep within Tokelau Smelter that oversees research and development of prototype equipment and weaponry. Only Orex’s closest customers know of its capabilities, and the risks involved with not only gathering resources but also producing the weapons themselves, ensure that only the wealthiest clients receive access to the technology being procured here.
The executive board of Orex sees this as the new “Gold Rush” of the Sirius Sector. It is not uncommon to see Orex vessels operating in the Uncharted Systems, whether it be for research, resource extraction, or protection details. Journeys into these systems are usually done on a larger scale, with escort ships being heavily armed to ensure their logisticians are protected from all threats that may arise. Rumors also speak of these escorts seizing cargo from other groups that may enter the system, wanting to ensure that the materials found in the Uncharted Systems, and thus the markets for them, are dominated by Orex themselves.

Orex Industries owes its existence to two extraordinary founders who combined their passion for innovation, entrepreneurship, and humanitarianism: Orex Industries owes its existence to two extraordinary founders who combined their passion for innovation, entrepreneurship, and humanitarianism:
1. Dr. Amelia Hartley: Dr. Hartley is primarily identified as a scientist and a philanthropist; Dr. Hartley is a leading space researcher who has devoted a lot to discovering the universe. She has a lot of experience in astrophysics and an important desire to do good for society, which adds great value to the Orex team.
2. Mr. Luis Zavala: As an experienced businessman and a powerful voice on humanitarian issues Mr. Zavala has been in a position to develop and manage many enterprises. That is why he unites the company and is engaged in the development of its activities to achieve success for Orex Industries.
