Are you running any VPNs or have any third party firewall software installed on your PC? It may be worth disabling/uninstalling these and seeing if that fixes the issue.

At that point I would potentially look at your Windows Defender firewall to see if that could be causing any problem. Perhaps try temporarily disabling it and then try launch Discovery and attempt to connect again.
Reading some other threads of people posting about connection issues, some have mentioned a Freelancer/Discovery reinstall fixed it for them, worth a try if you haven't already. But ensure you back up your launcher config .xml so that you don't lose any of your accounts.
Im trying to connect to the Discovery server with other players.
I was told I was unbanned and everything was okay from their end, I contacted one of the admins again though

It may have something to do with the previous ban, but yes I'm sure an admin can confirm that for you. Hope you manage to get it sorted and get playing again. See you in space.
