no one really cared, especially when pulses deal direct damage that completely bypasses shield resistances. lol

No. This went out the window in .87 when all factions received two weapons. Just as an example, as TFP, I am liable to be shot by Plasmas (Liberty), Lasers (Liberty, Rogues, Bounty Hunters), Tachyons (Lane Hackers, Outcasts, Civilian, Liberty)), Particles (Outcasts, BHG, Xenos, Crayter). I am quite sure I'm missing some.
It doesn't apply anymore and hasn't in a long, long time, except in the case of the very few factions with only one real enemy.

For the sake of completion:
Neutrons (Order)
Photons (Gaians)
This is also putting aside all of the former Zoner and Junker guns that are now essentially free use, as well as the plethora of generic and civilian-grade guns that were already like that.
I personally would love to see gun classes made spicy, since they do really feel like 'this is the same gun but it tastes different' all across the board, but I also fully accept that's an arduous and thankless task that will take far more time to work out than 'spicy shield types'.
Really hope to see something like that in the future, though. Fingers crossed.
