I disagree. It allows for teamwork to take shape without roleplay being a burden (of course RP is foremost but PvP rules don't apply against an NPC). Sometimes it may be more beneficial for a group to run difficult missions such as those against enemy capitals before heading straight into enemy territory without even knowing each other, let alone the enemy. Alas, if PvE is not needed, then neither is Connecticut.

The missions overal discourage player interaction on a larger scale (Groups aren't meeting each other, instead sticking to themselves)
Would simply encourage people to do the more 'oorp' idea of mission groups. People going off together just to do missions.
If the server can hold 200 people, and every 5 people are spawning 5 NPCs. That's a hell of a load on the server. Really, big big load.
It's not likely -Everyone- In the server will be on those missions.
There has to be a minimum level and such, and I believe people -would- roleplay some of those missions. (At least certain people I know would.)
Less trading = less pirating
Less pirating = less policing
Less policing = less bounty hunters/mercs etc
In general, this would simply discourage the RP of Pirating, Policing and well, anything connected to that.
The more trading, the more the server lives in general. Yes striking a balance is needed but otherwise it will simply well..fall apart.
If missions were a proper alternative to Trading, it would cause a hell of a lot more lag and overal discourage the base of RP of Discovery, which is Unlawful V Lawful (Not just 'Lets go pew pew police', that makes no sense in reality for most pirates)
I quite like the idea of being able to do large-scale missions, especially in the single-player. In single-player, most missions don't really tend to pay well after you've beaten the Story. I know most people play online, but Single-Player gets a bit boring after a while, and some of us aren't equipped with the best internet (me for example). I think the two ideas are good for single player mostly, as it won't place strain on the server and as long as the player has a fairly decent PC, they should do just fine.
