what comes first is how you use the ship and how you RP ingame. - stories are unimportant if you can transport your intention and your concept ingame to the other players.
ppl give too much credit to a story - and sometimes forget about ingame behaviour. - the best story is ruined when the player in question cannot express it in his gameplay.
furthermore, some stories are written like a dairy
ontopic - how do you RP your pirate. - if you are really independent, you won t dock with any pirate base but only with freeports, cause what pirate faction would let you dock if you re not their friend. - if you ARE their friend... are you still independent?
the zoner gunboat is sold to everyone - but you d be surprised how quickly it turns into a fireball if you decide that you go against zoners in a zoner ship. - due to the lack of real bounty contracts, you d have a bunch of very happy hunters on your tail.
most pirate factions wouldn t give you a ship if you re not part of their faction. - they don t have enough for their own people let alone foreigners that might turn their gear against them.

see... that's the problem. Why do we have to chain ourselves to a specific faction IF we have been granted
the divine right by Igiss to play as independents?
We have been granted the generic Pirate ID for a reason!
We have been given an instruction on the Pirate ID that we can use the generic Freelancer TAG!
I see a big variety of civilian & junker bombers for indy pirates to choose from. For most of them, it doesn't
matter which one you choose as you will avoid any important link to a specific NPC faction.
But when it comes to gunboats... we can only use the "Conference" one? The idea is not to pick a side!!
The only two factions that have this sort of neutrality are Junkers and Civilians (freelancers).
But since this topic is runing in circles with some more important questions... I will ask a more
specific question:
Can I use the Kusary explorer if I want to be a fully generic indy pirate labeled as a criminal civilian
who isn't tied to either Outcasts or Corsairs? its a yes or no question.

Straight off, if I heard Pirate ID, I'd say no to the Kusari Explorer. Of course, in Discovery nothing is black and white, and RP creates endless possibilities. The Kusari Explorer is sitting on the lawful end of the civilian spectrum however, so I'd hesitate to use it for piracy.

<strike>as well as the conference gunboat.... i see.
Well i guess we need a new generic gunboat...</strike>
Edit: Well it took me some time to realize its quite OK to use the kusary explorer for piracy if you
use the generic pirate ID :D
feel free to design and submit a ridiculously overpowered junker gunboat.
Here are some suggestions for it:
Give it grabbing claws. These are important. The Bull Dog doesn't have a grabbing claw and no one likes it.
Give it 60 more cargo space than normal gunboats. This is extremely important because this is the heart of junker RP.
Give it a name that sounds like it could have something to do with scrap collection but sounds more like the sort of name people give to the local sex offender. Ideas: "The Eager Hoarder," "The Grabber," "The Rusty Embracer."
