' Wrote:yeah we'd either have to write a new server implementation (canon estimates about 17,000 lines of code to reverse engineer) or split it between 2 servers and sync the character data.
If the freelancer community was a bit larger, they would've figured a way to boost the slot count by now. I mean, look at GTA San Andreas. Their community managed to create a multiplayer mode from scratch, and recently they made improvements to it in order support 500 slots and while maintaining stability. It's a grand project, but I don't see how this can't be done for Freelancer too.
While it would be awesome if someone (rather some people) in the community got together and reverse engineered then rewrote FLServer so it works with multiple cores and can support a higher number of players with more stability than ever, I doubt that the devs and the members of the community with the know how can spare that much time to do so.
Most of the hours I play, the server is only about 120/200 or less. I rarely go on during the peak hours because of other obligations and the fact i prefer to avoid swarms of lolwutter fighter/bombers and power traders. If you keep trying to join the game when it is 198/200 or so eventually you get in. Just keep clicking! Determination pays dividends
